| 1. Hawkman: Endless Flight (Book 1) |
|
By: Geoff Johns, James Robinson, Rags Morales Publisher: DC Comics April 01, 2003
Hawkman, to me, is what Conan the Barbarian would've been like if the Cimmerian had been a superhero and been given the gift of flight. There's not really too many capes out there who's more brutal and, shall we say, old-school barbaric than Hawkman. It's why I like him, although the whole incarnation/Thanagar riff is pretty cool too. But, continuity-wise, Hawkman and Hawkgirl have had it pretty rough... more

| 3. The Hawkman Archives, Vol. 1 (DC Archive Editions) |
|
By: Gardner Fox, Joe Kubert, Murphy Anderson Publisher: DC Comics May 01, 2000
That title sounds a little like a line from an intergalactic blues song, but it's true. The Thanagarians, an advanced alien race, invented the Internet, anti-gravity metal and interstellar space travel, but they never thought to wrap 2 pieces of bread around a hunk of meat and cheese? It says so right in this book. If I were Hawkman I would have ditched the crime fighting and opened a Subway AND a... more

| 4. Showcase Presents: Hawkman, Vol. 1 |
|
By: Gardner Fox, Bob Haney Publisher: DC Comics March 21, 2007
I remember buying the first issue of Showcase Presents in 196-whenever and being blown away by the story and art. Particularly the art. I was already emulating Gil Kane's art style from Green Lantern and Carmine Infantino's style for The Flash, but was not prepared for the renderings of Joe Kubert.
Kubert is a master of shadows. He creates believable breath-taking scene... more

| 5. Hawkman: Allies & Enemies (Book 2) |
|
By: Geoff Johns, Rags Morales Publisher: DC Comics March 01, 2004
Hawkman and the Atom work well together, and a surprise betrayal that you don't see coming. Robinson's artwork is very nice, too. This is more of the eternal triangle of love, death and assassination that Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and their enemy Hath-Set have been trapped in for thousands of years. This time it comes from a very unlikely source.

| 6. Hawkman: Wings of Fury (Book 3) |
|
By: Geoff Johns Publisher: DC Comics June 01, 2005
After this, this particular Hawkman series starts its slow decline, and not so slow cancellation. However, the Hawkman series with Johns writing and what he came up with is definitely worth a look, particularly for the relationship between the characters, and his brutality in the bits where he is actually fighting, making him somewhat different than the other heroes, rather than just a generic flying... more
