By: Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka Publisher: DC Comics September 16, 2008
I've always liked crime stories in comic form and Gotham Central is one of the best. Like Brian Michael Bendis' POWERS it shows the police officers lives on the job and sometimes off as they try and deal with protecting and serving in a world filled with superheroes and villains.
The stories in this volume play out very episodically. Each issue contained an entire arc and while re-reading... more

By: Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka Publisher: DC Comics September 15, 2009
Starting in 2003, the multiple-Eisner award winning "Gotham Central" series followed two separate shifts of police officers working in the present-day Major Crimes Unit of the Gotham City Police Department. In the GCPD's struggle against crime and terror, Batman looms as both competitor and savior. This second DC hardcover collects issues #11-22 of the series. Most stories were a collaboration between... more

Take any cop show and try and find an episode that was to bland to be aired on TV so they put it in as an extra in a box set and labeled it "never before seen episode" and you have Gotham Central. I've been reading graphic novels for 30 years and I received this book as a gift. I thought the concept was a great idea and I couldn't wait to open it up. I was incredibly disappointed. I kept reading, hoping... more

| 5. Gotham Central Vol. 3: Unresolved Targets (Batman) |
|
By: Greg Rucka, Ed Brubaker Publisher: DC Comics April 26, 2006
This is exactly how I see Gotham City in my mind. Grimey, gritty, dirty, whatever word you would like to use. They all apply. Rucka & Brubaker write two different stories each compelling and important and there are only a couple of scenes involving super heroes. The Joker story is creepy and the Mad Hatter tale is weird and smarmy, just like him. My only complaint is that the cast is so big... more

| 6. Gotham Central: Half a Life |
|
By: Greg Rucka, Michael Lark Publisher: Titan Books Ltd June 24, 2005
NOTE: This is the only one of the five-part "Gotham Central" comics I've read.
A tale that brings a touch of social modernism/drama to the world to comics in perhaps the only way it could be (while remaining tasteful). GCPD Detective Renee Montoya - while formerly a tertiary, behind the scenes character - is the forefront of this story that brings to light one old and one new secret in... more
