| 2. Secrets in the Shadows: The Art & Life of Gene Colan |
|
By: Tom Field, Gene Colan Publisher: TwoMorrows Publishing June 29, 2005
I grew up on Daredevil in the 1980's. Miller, Mazzucchelli, Romita Jr. But, being the collector I was, I went back and bought up all the old books as well. Even then, as a young teenager, I was really impressed with the artwork in those old books. I had looked at other old comics and was never pulled in. The artwork always seemed so..."old". Gene's work never did. Sure, it was different than... more

By: Gerry Conway, Archie Goodwin, Gardner F. Fox, Marv Wolfman, Chris Claremont, David Kraft Publisher: Marvel Comics November 26, 2008
Many whine about getting this book with bad glue binding, but my copy is great and will probably outlast me. If you were a fan of the 1970's horror comic TOMB OF DRACULA, buy this! I basically bought this elsewhere because of the price being too high at Amazon. Bought it for $50.00 brand new! Great! The stories can get a bit repetitive and so I read it in about a week's time. First appearance... more

| 5. The Spider: Scavengers of the Slaughtered Sacrifices |
|
By: Don McGregor, Gene Colan Publisher: Vanguard 2002-10
I've been a fan of the Spider for a long time. The pulps were wll before my time but I've been able to find a number of the paperbacks and also enjoyed the old Eclipse comic series. I was very excited about this all-new graphic novel, especially because it featured the art of one of my 1970's favorite artists Gene Colan. The story was in the seemingly capable hands of Don McGregor, another regular... more

| 6. Guardians of the Galaxy: Earth Shall Overcome |
|
By: Arnold Drake, Steve Gerber Publisher: Marvel Comics May 27, 2009
...you have to settle for a Premier Hardcover.
The Guardians of the Galaxy first appeared in 1969 in Marvel Super-Heroes #18. The premise was fairly simple (and familiar) - four men from disparate backgrounds and cultures band together against the common alien conqueror a thousand years from now.
The feature didn't exactly set the comics world afire. It would be another 5... more

I am a big Dracula fan. If you've read many of my reviews you know I own tons of Dracula books. Of all the incarnations of Bram Stoker's great creation, the Marvel Comics adaptation is my favorite. This trade paper back collects multiple issues of Tomb of Dracula and Dr. Strange featuring the interplay between the two.

| 10. Essential Daredevil, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials) |
|
By: Stan Lee, Gene Colan Publisher: Marvel Comics June 01, 2004
Daredevil Volume 2 is a really good volume. Its great to see Doctor Doom and The Jester fight Daredevil. There aren't many problems with the book and there are plenty of other characters that show up. I found the Mike Murdock story to be laughable and extremely cheesy. I would say that it looked dated but I think it was odd even back then. The Mike Murdock story actually reminded me of a Sliver Age... more
