| 1. Back To Brooklyn Volume 1 |
|
By: Garth Ennis, Jimmy Palmiotti, Mihailo Vukelic Publisher: Image Comics July 22, 2009
Like the majority of Garth Ennis' writing, it's a page turner. Don't buy it if you are looking for some sort of enlightenment on the human condition. Just some very solid, very violent, entertainment. My only small complaint would be the references to Sariavo and Robert E. Lee. None of the characters in this story strike me as people with a likely interest in world politics or history. Those two... more

| 3. Just a Pilgrim HC |
|
By: Garth Ennis, Carlos Esquerra, Mark Texeira Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment April 01, 2009
I truly enjoyed Punisher Max and was checking out earlier Ennis stuff. The problem is that one has to lower expectations here. This is more like Punisher/Dillon, with dark humor. Except that it doesn't quite come off as humor. More like slapsthick. For example, the guy who mated with a mutated organism and is now bloated like a furball, what's funny about that? Even in an imaginary fantasy-filled world... more

| 4. Battlefields HC |
|
By: Garth Ennis, Russ Braun, Peter Snejbjerg, Carlos Esquerra, John Cassaday, Gary Leach Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment November 04, 2009
Battlefields, a collection of three miniseries perhaps best described by other reviewers here and not by the editorial itself, is one of the most harrowing displays of graphic novel depictions showcasing WW2. The first one I had the luxury of reading was Dear Billy, which depicted the account of a nurse that had been raped, shot and left for dead by the advancing Japanese. This was followed by Night... more

| 5. Garth Ennis Dicks Volume 1 |
|
By: Garth Ennis, John McCrea Publisher: Avatar Press March 15, 2003
It's no secret that Garth Ennis (Preacher, Punisher, Hitman, The Boys) has never been the most subtle when it comes to sick and twisted humor, and Dicks has it in spades. Dicks tells the incredibly vulgar adventures of wanna-be private detectives Ivor and Dougie: two Northern Ireland natives who hang with a motley crew and get themselves into all kinds of mayhem. Naturally, there is much vulgarity... more

| 7. Battlefields: Night Witches |
|
By: Garth Ennis, Russell Braun Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment March 04, 2009
Garth Ennis has made a lengthy comics career of working on the indie fringes, supplementing this with occasional mainstream superhero work. This is an economic necessity of the market (Warren Ellis has made similar comments, but does his work with a lot less dislike of the medium), but it's an unfortunate one, as Ennis has a pronounced dislike for the superhero pre-eminence and he tends to take it... more

| 8. Hitman: The Ace of Killers |
|
By: Garth Ennis Publisher: DC Comics June 01, 2000
A certain demon wants Tommy Monaghan to do his bidding and be his agent. When Tommy tells him to do you know want, the demon sends a six gunned killer monster to get him.
There are encounters with other send up loser types, and even an established character. Hitman is still very entertaining.

| 9. Preacher Vol. 1: Gone to Texas |
|
By: Garth Ennis Publisher: Vertigo March 01, 1996
I had read the first issue of the series years ago and decided that it wasn't good enough to keep reading the series. However, after I kept hearing from source after source that this comic was great, I had to give it another try, specially since my brother-in-law lent me all volumes of Preacher.
With all volumes in hand, I decided to give it another try. As I was reading the first issue... more

| 10. The Boys Volume 5: Herogasm |
|
By: Garth Ennis, John McCrea, Darick Robertson Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment December 09, 2009
Garth Ennis continues to amaze me with The Boys. Herogasm is a tale of the excess and debauchery of the sups, and just when you think it cant get more foul...it does. The Vic The Veep storyline is always interesting, and the Homelander gets more and more despicable as time goes on. I'm still wondering just what Black Noir was up to, and what exactly happened there. Great read for any fan of Ennis!... more
