| 3. The Flash: Wonderland |
|
By: Geoff Johns Publisher: DC Comics October 03, 2007
This is a solid story and great interaction between Flash and Captain Cold. However, I was expecting something along the caliber of John's more recent work on JSA, Green Lantern, and Action Comics. This is not on the same par. Perhaps his Flash work evolved to come close to his current masterpieces, but not here. I think I'll just wait until Flash: Rebirth to see what else Geoff can bring to the hero... more

By: Tim Jones, Allan Rosson, Barry Kelly, David Wolfe Publisher: friends of ED November 19, 2007
Lots of information about producing animated projects in Flash and also some about assembling them in After Effects. Discusses strengths and weaknesses of the two different applications and when one or the other might be prefered (Length, Size, Delivery medium, need for camera movement?, etc.). It seems like a very good book, written by animation professionals who use these programs daily to make... more

| 6. The Flash Chronicles, Vol. 1 |
|
By: Various Publisher: DC Comics September 29, 2009
Showcase #4 was published in 1956. This is the comic that most fans and historians agree ushered in what we call the "Silver Age of Comics." The successful redesign of The Flash brought us new versions of many DC characters, and would go on to influence Marvel's silver age boom of creation, bringing about Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, etc.
Flash Chronicles vol. 1 is the... more

| 7. Al Williamson's Flash Gordon: A Lifelong Vision of the Heroic |
|
By: Al Williamson Publisher: Flesk Publications January 15, 2009
This in an extraordinary book. While one reviewer complained of the art being in black and white, I could not be more pleased--Here we start with Flash Gordon #1 in 1966. Williamson was 35 years old and in his absolute prime. Some pages are obviously shot from copies but many of the pages are reproduced from originals. This is a book to savor, to pour over and enjoy over time, a book to come back to... more

|
By: Alex Raymond Publisher: Checker Book Publishing Group December 15, 2004
The adventure strip on the comics page has not yet quite gone the way of the dodo, but it is definitely in spotted owl territory: rare and threatened constantly by outside forces (such as newspaper economics). Certainly, the few that are left are bland. None can compare the adventure strips of yore, and among these, Flash Gordon is one of the tops.
The title character is a near perfect... more

| 9. The Flash, Vol. 7: Rogue War |
|
By: Geoff Johns Publisher: DC Comics January 04, 2006
Like Mark Waid before him, Geoff Johns managed to breathe new life into the Flash during his long run on the series, particularly his re-vamping of the scarlet speedster's rogues gallery. Rogue War culminates Johns' monumental run on the series, bringing the long brewing war between the reformed villains and the Rogues to a head, with the Flash and Keystone City smack in the middle. Rogue War starts... more

By: Robert Kanigher, John Broome Publisher: DC Comics May 04, 1998
If you are a Silver Age comics fan this one's for you! I caught on to The Flash when I was maybe in junior high school and about seven or eight years into the original Carmine Infantino, John Broome, Robert Kanigher, Frank Giacola, Joe Giella, Joe Kubert et al. run. The Flash was updated from the older Golden Age Flash - the guy with the blue pants, red shirt, and sporting a helmet that looked... more
