| 1. Dungeons and Dragons Core Rulebook Gift Set, 4th Edition |
|
By: Wizards RPG Team Publisher: Wizards of the Coast June 06, 2008
Compared to what could-have-been, a great disappointment. Layout is confusing (terms like 2w appearing before they're explained), artwork is below standard compared to (say) Dragonlance art.
The actual rules are a top-to-bottom redesign of prior work with just enough terminology retained to be confusing (don't expect a "saving throw" to do what it used to do), and much simpler that previously... more

| 2. Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Starter Set (D&D Introductory Game) |
|
From: Wizards of the Coast Publisher: Wizards of the Coast October 21, 2008
I'm with the other 2 star guy. I'm over 40, and played in the 80's.
The other day, cleaning out my garage with my son, I found a notebook full of old modules. Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. White Plume Mountain. Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. The Village of Hommlet. Against the Giants...
And my son was like -- wow, cool! Let's play dad?
So I dig around... more

| 3. Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Screen |
|
From: Wizards of the Coast Publisher: Wizards of the Coast August 19, 2008
The 4th Edition DM screen offers a variety of handy reference tables for the DM's quick reference. The tables are generally ones that are used regularly, particularly the breakdown of the various states combatants may be suffering from. Others, such as the price of a meal, may not be terribly necessary to have visible at all times, but overall the right information is here to accelerate the game pace... more

| 4. Player's Handbook Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (2nd Ed Fantasy Roleplaying) |
|
By: David Zeb Cook Publisher: TSR Inc. April 25, 1995
Where, oh where, to start? Advanced Dungeons & Dragons is a RPG in a league all it's own. When I first started playing RPGs I started with D&D 3rd edition and it was okay. I always felt that the rules in it were too much like a video game and put too many limits on my characters. Second edition is completely different. When AD&D was created it was during a time when you still needed to be creative... more

| 5. Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide: Roleplaying Game Core Rules, 4th Edition |
|
By: Wizards RPG Team Publisher: Wizards of the Coast June 06, 2008
4e is a great edition. I played the first and second edition, but stopped at 3rd. 3rd was a game for people who like minutia, and love to do calculus at the gaming table, and had 12 spare hours to spend on one fight. This edition makes the game accessible flexible, and makes it fun with out all of the monotony for 3 and 3.5e. If you are a fan of spending 15 minutes and a graphic calculator to resolve... more
