The best of Mack's Kabuki series stand among the best comics ever. At least one other among these collections of monthly magazines just isn't worth the space it would have taken on my shelf, however. This appears to end the series on a note as mixed as the series itself.
Good parts here are as good as any earlier in the series. Mack's multi-media mastery creates imagery as layered an complex... more

SOfar I have only read this book, but it sucked me right in. There's so much going on, and it's also interesting and fascinating. I'm rather picky about my graphic novels and manga, so I was surprised to enjoy this book so much. I will be buying the rest of the series!... more

I'm not going to say that the pictures were by any means all perfect. There was lots of gorgeous artwork in this book, and it was a visual treat. However, some of the pictures felt rather slapped together or amateurish, and I do wish there could have been more to the story. Still, it does get better in the next book, so just consider this one as even more of a 'graphic' novel than usual... more

I absolutely adore David Mack's artwork. Metamorphosis is more philosophical than action based, although we get to know more about Kabuki's time and escape from the clinic... more

This is my favorite comic. This was my intro to Kabuki. I was in the mood for something different, saw an ad for this on the back of one comic or another and checked it out at the local direct sales store. WOW. Yes its weirdly told compared to the ordinary comic book and having to move the pages around to read all of it was odd but I loved it. I thought Frank Miller hit the high point in comics... more

By: David Mack Publisher: Image Comics February 22, 2006
I'm not a big fan of David Mack's "work", but i thought i would give this book a shot. i disliked it greatly, thought the story was underwhelming and even tho the layouts were clever, the art itself is obviously referenced from popular magazine covers (albeit by way of japan).
i will not be supporting this series any further. ... more

By: David Mack, Rick Mays Publisher: Image Comics December 24, 2002
It's rather inevitable, since it's not about Kabuki, the character for whom the entire setting was conceived, but this book completely loses the tone, artwork, and characterization of the other books in the series. The character is uninteresting; the elegance, cadence, and symbolism of the writing is gone; the setting is totally unrelated; and the artwork can't compare to David Mack's. Fans of 'Circle... more
