| 1. The Originals |
|
By: Dave Gibbons Publisher: Vertigo January 01, 2006
The Originals was exactly that, original. Gibbons art work, as always, is fantastic and pleasant to look at. The world that he has created in The Originals is intriguing and stylistic. The story of the the book isn't very deep, fairly basic plot, but that is made up for in his artwork and in the action sequences. It's a good quick read if your looking for something to keep you entertained for a while... more

| 3. Give Me Liberty: An American Dream |
|
By: Dave Gibbons Publisher: Dark Horse Comics December 20, 2008
I decided to pick up Give me Liberty after reading Miller's, The Dark Knight Returns because I was very entertained by the story and how appropriate the level of violence was for the story.
But lets talk about this book. Give me Liberty follows the life of Martha Washington, a youth from an oppressive housing projects, who escapes from her oppressive home and ends up in a fascist military... more

| 4. World's Finest (Deluxe) (Superman/Batman) |
|
By: Dave Gibbons Publisher: DC Comics July 01, 2008
Steve Rude had done a lot of admirable work in the comic's world. Fans of Nexus have certainly come to appreciate his retro-pulp style. His renderings of the two most recognizable franchise characters in western culture can leave no doubt to the man's vituousity. Each panel is lively and fluid, so much like his idols Toth and Kirby. Steve Ollif's earthy colorings are a perfect counterpoint to Rude's... more

By: Frank Miller, Walter Simonson, Mark Evanier Publisher: DC Comics January 23, 2008
Having just recently finished the first 3 volumes of the Jack Kirby 4th world omnibus, I had a craving for more, John Byrne and Walt Simonson, being two of my favorite comic book creator's, made picking up this trade an easy choice. Granted these short stories were meant to expand upon the stories presented in the lead features of the books they appeared in, but even standing by themselves they are... more

| 6. Watchmen |
|
By: Alan Moore Publisher: DC Comics November 11, 2008
Alan Moore's masterpiece The Watchmen should have a spot on every comic aficionado's bookshelf. It has been hailed as the graphic novel that started a revolution in comics, and I like to agree with that sentiment. I was not around when it first came out, and I only just got to reading it, but I can see why it still stands as a solid piece of work thirty years after it ended. The Watchmen is indeed... more

This story is a direct follow up to the events that took place in the fantastic Planet Heist mini featuring Adam Strange, and the ramifications that arose from it. At first one may think they need a scorecard to keep track of all of the diverse pieces in this cosmic chess match. There are more involved here than just the two main opponents of Rann and Thanagar. Every major faction of this sector of... more
