| By: Denny O'Neil, E. Nelson Bridwell, Elliot S. Maggin, C.C. Beck, Kurt Schaffenberger, Dave Cockrum, Dick Giordano Publisher: DC Comics December 06, 2006
There was a time in the 1940's when "Captain Marvel" ("The World's MIghtiest Mortal") was once the even more popular than "Superman," out selling the "Mand of Steel."
This did not make the publishers of DC Comics, Harry Donnenfeld and Jack Leibowitz, happy. DC Comics took Fawcett Publications who plublished "Captain Marvel" to court claiming that Captain Marvel was an infringement of... more

| | 4. Essential X-Men, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials) (v. 2) |
| By: Chris Claremont Publisher: Marvel Comics December 28, 2005
I was 11 - 12 when I read these stories. I'm 40 now and that shows how far back they go. Yet they still hold up. I can remember wanting (and not able to) read the Proteus Saga for the longest time and taking issue 137 with me to school. The Hellfire Saga marked the point when I started reading the X-Men seriously, and # 138 helped me to understand their history. And of course "Days of Future Past"... more

Wizard did a good job of compiling some of the best stories from when Claremont was writing the X-Men. While 10 stories are advertised, there are actually 10 issues that cover 5 stories from the late 70's and early 80's. They are however, 5 of the best stories that could have been selected. The X-Men lineup that goes through these stories includes Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus... more

Aclin Publisher: Marvel Comics September 16, 2009
This was the golden years for Marvel Team-Up. John Byrne inked a number of issues, and his list of guest stars was unique rather than prancing the same characters through time and again. Minor characters like Woodgod, Captain Britain, Havok, Tigra, Ms. Marvel, Iron Fist, Daughters of the Dragon, and Power Man went alongside Marvel's heavy hitters like Hulk, Iron Man, the Human Torch, Yellowjacket... more

DeMatteis, Dave Cockrum, Klaus Janson, Michael Netzer, Ricardo Villamonte, Frank Springer, Leo Duranona, Joe Brozowski, Tom Palmer, Luke McDonnell, Gene Day, Gil Kane, Ed Hannigan Publisher: IDW Publishing June 11, 2009
I bought this book sight-unseen because I like Star Trek comics. Even when they're bad, they're at least fun; see any of the Whitman/Dell Star Trek comics (collected by Checker Books). The Checker reprints are meticulous; I even acquired one of the 70's collected books and the colors are identical (save for better paper).
That said, it's obvious that the comics in this book have been... more
