First let me say this was a great book. Weighing in at just over 600 pages, this book was, for me at least, not a weekend read but well worth my time. The book moves fairly quickly, it only bogs down in a few spots when the author uses flashbacks to fill in the back-history between two students. I thought this book did a really good job on capturing the reality of relationships between different people... more

The original book and movie versions might have merit for a dissolutioned society, both in Japan and in US (although perhaps more so in Japan), keen of reading about horrors of government power run amok as well as human nature. The manga version, however, is a waste of time. First of all, tbe US version was extensively rewritten and the script does not completely follow the original Japanese manga... more

I have never read manga before. I picked this up after researching for new comics to read. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and highly recommend it. It's gripping and intense...not for the faint heated. I agree with most of what the first reviewer here said, so I won't rehash the plot. I will first just point out the parts I disliked. There's a lot of repetition. I got tired of Shuuya... more

After the shock and awe that was Ultimate Edition Volume 3, Volume 4 starts off gently and then moves into the most dynamic fight scene I've read in any comic form. There's a truly epic, almost book-length struggle between two characters that (assuming you've been spoiler-free) could go either way. In other words, a BLAST to read. Great stuff, still incredibly violent but more heart-breaking than... more

Being a fan of the original book, I really enjoyed the manga because of the great artwork and detail put into it. Reading the manga, you really get a sense of how things happened on the island. If you have ever read the book and enjoyed it this is a must, and SO much better than the movie... more

It had to be a bit rubbish. That's what I always thought to myself when I saw Battle Royale mentioned. I assumed this because it doesn't have an anime adaptation. What I didn't know back then was the reason for this -- I thought it was because the series wasn't that interesting. I never suspected it was because what's included in the story is so extreme that it would have to be butchered to make the... more

Shuuya and Noriko have managed to survive the first night of the Program and have promised each other not to play the game. But the problem is how do you know who is and is not playing?
