| 1. Essential Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 3 (Marvel Essentials) (v. 3) |
|
By: Stan Lee Publisher: Marvel Comics August 03, 2005
The cover of this edition of Essential Spider-Man encapsulates our hero throughout this collection of stories. Everything that happens to Peter Parker as Spider-Man makes his life miserable. Spider-Man saves Gwen Stacy and her father, but she's mad at Peter for something he did because of his secret identity. Because Peter is missing for awhile (due of course to being amnesiac as Spider-Man), Aunt... more

| 3. Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 5: Unintended Consequences |
|
By: J. Michael Straczynski Publisher: Marvel Comics December 01, 2003
I was really disappointed when I saw they included the Fiona Avery stories in this collection. I read them when they came out as individual issues and I hated them so much I threw them out so they weren't taking up comic space. The dialogue was forced and it was so cause focused rather than story focused. I even decided not to buy the trade because they included the non-Stracynski issues... Bad decision... more

| 4. Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 7: The Book of Ezekiel |
|
By: J. Michael Straczynski, John Romita Jr. Publisher: Marvel Comics October 01, 2004
One of the best installments in the Amazing Spider-man Series - I had been waiting a long time to get this, Ezekiel is one of the most loveable and enjoyable characters in the series and it was a nice touch to give him almost an entire volume to clear up the mysteries.
This book brings to light all of the strange paranormal happenings that Spidey had faced in previous volumes. The ending... more

| 5. Marvel Masterworks: Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 |
|
By: Stan Lee, Steve Ditko Publisher: Marvel Entertainment Group 2003-11
Spiderman was never so good as Ditko (sometimes getting plot credit) and Lee presented him here. The collaborators are in complete control of Spider-man and the great cast of bad guys--especially the Green Goblin. The ironies of Peter Parkers life are poignant, and each issue seems to develop both Peter's life and the supporting cast. This and the next volume are probably the best collections: the... more

By: J. Michael Straczynski Publisher: Marvel Comics August 05, 2009
Why is Spiderman interacting with and fighting guys with paranormal and or psychic powers? There's three of them - the first one is some kind of "master" with mimic spidey powers who misdirect a vermin predator to go after Spidey. Then there is the guy with kabbalah powers who suck stray people into a void. Spidey can only conteract with the help of Dr Strange, who is too busy himself, but lends Spidey... more

By: Bill Mantlo, Gerry Conway, Archie Goodwin, Len Wein, Ross Andru, Sal Buscema, Gil Kane Publisher: Marvel Comics November 09, 2005
More than the Fantastic Four, more than the X-Men, Captain America, the Hulk or Iron Man, the face of Marvel Comics has always been Spider-Man. When Stan Lee and company created a new type of superhero in the early 1960s, the distinctive aspect was that the characters were distinctly human, with flaws that earlier heroes lacked. And the most "human" in the bunch was Peter Parker, nerdy teenager transformed... more

The Marvel Masterworks series srtikes again with The Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 4. This volume shows change from the first three Masterwork volumes.
