From: Image Comics Publisher: Image Comics 2001-09
One of the comic art giants of the 1950s and 1960s was Alexander "Alex" Toth. His work continued on until his death a couple of years back---some of it absolutely brilliant (all of it good)---but more sporadically than in his heyday. He did a lot of film work towards the end of the 60s----storyboarding and character-designing both feature films (The Angry Red Planet, Hickey & Boggs) and tv cartoon... more

By: Enrique Sanchez Abuli, Jimmy Palmiotti, Jordi Bernet, Alex Toth Publisher: IDW Publishing September 15, 2009
Long due for a reprint in the US (the previous version by Catalan in the late 80's never got to the end of the series) in glorious black & white. This new reprint features an all new translation by Jimmy Palmiotti who tries hard to be faithful to Sanchez Abuli's original text, but ultimately fails. Seems the only people who got it right (I'm speaking of the translations) were the French who, however... more

By: Pat Boyette, J. David Spurlock Publisher: Vanguard Productions 2004-01
The name Pat Boyette may not be extremely well known among today's comic book fans which makes this collection of his work from Vanguard Productions all the more special. Boyette worked in TV and film before moving into comics in the 1960's and directed, wrote, edited, even provided the narration for one of the great 1960's "b" horror movies "Dungeons of Harrow". In fact calling it a "B" movie is... more

By: Gardner Fox Publisher: DC Comics September 01, 1999
If you are looking for highly literate science fiction comics...well, this is not quite for you. But, some of these stories are well written, and the art, for most of them, is very good to excellent. Murphy Anderson is well represented, along with two comics drawn by Virgil Finlay, two from Joe Kubert (decades apart), one by a young Gil Kane, a couple from Jack Kirby. Single stories by Alex Toth... more

By: Archie Goodwin Publisher: Fantagraphics Books April 29, 2009
The material in this volume is beautifully presented, the art work has never looked better. My one gripe is that Fantagraphics choose to not print it in 'issue format' like the EC archives, and Creepy and EERIE archives do. It's actually a lot easier to read and thumb through that way. They did produce the covers in small thumbnails. The covers pictured are in soiled used condition. Couldn't... more

How can people not love Dark Horse Comics? I never thought I'd see these classic Warren magazines reprinted but Dark Horse has come to the rescue of all of us horror fans who grew up on Creepy, Eerie, and Vampirella in the 1970s. Volume two of the hardcover archive series reprints Creepy #6 - 10 in their entirety, complete with ads and letter columns. To go along with Frank Frazetta covers, the... more
