I have not owned other Photoshop software before, so I cannot speak to how it compares or upgrades. I am what you might call an "enthusiastic amateur": I take a lot of pictures and do some basic editing and fixing, but am not a professional or anything close.
I found the Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 fairly intuitive to install and use. I have heard that the full Photoshop is too complicated... more

This product is great. And with the ability to manipulate RAW files, its usefulness is complete. It has more power than 98% of the people out there will ever need. But if you need it, it's there. Frankly I can't imagine why anyone would get CS4 with this program available. The added function of CS4 will be unused by all but the most serious and intense users.

At the start I'll acknowledge some people will not consider the rating I gave appropriate. After all, Premier Elements does have some stability issues. (These could be resolved by the tips I've passed along at the end of this review.) Further, Photoshop Elements 8 is not that much better than the previous version. (Depending on what features you use it might even be considered worse.)

Don't confuse Lightroom with the full blown Photoshop.

This product is great, and was so easy to install! A few people mentioned difficulties with getting the serial number, but I had no problem at all. I received the serial number in my email the day after I submitted my student id and info. So if you follow the insturctions and have a valid id, there isn't much to worry about. I just wanted to add my own personal experience because some people have run into difficulties registering the software. I attend a small private school in Utah, certainly not very well-known, and after submitting a recent tuition bill I received a serial number back in about 18 hours. The 30-day trial function made it immediately available in the meantime.

I spent a few hours creating my first video show using Photoshop Premiere Elements. Just as I was adding finishing touches the program crashed, and crashed, and crashed. Basically it didn't work after that, couldn't get it to start. I then downloaded "Windows Live Movie Maker for Windows 7" for free. It was easy to use.
