| 1. Have One on Me |
|
By: Joanna Newsom February 23, 2010
Features:Joanna Newsom has thrown down the gauntlet to every living songwriter. She's done so without pretension, creating a deeply human masterpiece that will be respected and revered for ages to come. The songs on Have One On Me intimately mix bare vulnerability with raw frustration; stark loss with radiant love; joined harmoniously with the thematic presence of a concept album - the only concept being a... more

| 6. Beat the Devil's Tattoo |
|
By: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club March 09, 2010
Features:Hayes and Been have come a long way from their high school days in San Francisco, and seem to finally be getting some broader attention in the wake of Howl and Baby 81. Beat the Devil's Tattoo represents Leah Shapiro's debut with the power trio. Formerly the touring drummer for the Raveonettes, Shapiro is stellar here. She reminds me of Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney, only better suited to Hayes/Been... more

| 7. Transference |
|
By: Spoon January 19, 2010
I'm not sure if it's the songs, production, and/or sequencing but I don't think Transference measures up with Spoon's previous output. I've been a long-time fan of Spoon and have given Transference multiple listens but it's not one that I'll think to put on when I need a good dose of their music. Still, there are some tracks that I really enjoy including "The Mystery Zone", "I Saw The Light", "Out... more

| 8. Teen Dream [CD + DVD] |
|
By: Beach House January 26, 2010
Even I, a big supporter of indie labels like Sub Pop (they spawned Nirvana), had never heard of Beach House. But when I heard this album, I was blown away. Literally. I was thrown off my feet, I just loved this album. It's just great. Great for everybody. Anybody. Just a great album. I love the singer's voice. This is real talent here. This talent in the band isn't gonna stop talentless puppets-to... more

| 9. Ocean Eyes |
|
By: Owl City July 28, 2009
I bought this for my wife, who loves it. I on the other hand HATE it. Every song sounds the same, a guy singing through his nose with a synthesizer. The instrumental parts of each song sound like bad doctor's office music. I really don't think this is meant for the guys, but who am I to judge?... more
