| | 2. The Long Goodbye |
| Starring: Elliott Gould, Nina Van Pallandt, Sterling Hayden, Robert Altman, Vilmos Zsigmond Directed By: Robert Altman, Greg Carson September 17, 2002
Didn't read the book, not a student of film, and I thought the movie was awful! Elliot Gould smokes and mumbles his way through the film as a bumbling, staggering doofus, the very embodiment of uncool. It's as though by making him a chain-smoker he would be cool or mysterious but it sure doesn't work. The other characters are more like caricatures, poorly and/or overacted. Was very excited... more

| | 3. Cutter's Way |
| Starring: Jeff Bridges, John Heard, Lisa Eichhorn, Ann Dusenberry, Stephen Elliott Directed By: Ivan Passer July 10, 2001
Cutter's Way takes it's time in developing and establishing a plot, so much so that I only made it all the way through the movie on my 3rd attempt. Those who appreciate 'noir' will give this movie the highest ratings. Personally I find a lot of 'noir' cinema to be something of a cop-out - movie endings that stop in mid-sentence - yes, there's a poetry and a power in that, although I'm more of a sucker... more

| | 4. The Sword and the Sorcerer |
| Starring: Lee Horsley, Kathleen Beller, Simon MacCorkindale, George Maharis, Richard Lynch Directed By: Albert Pyun April 24, 2001
If I were to say the name "Albert Pyun", chances are pretty good you'd draw a blank. CYBORG? Uhh, isn't that a Van Damme film or something? Yeah. RADIOACTIVE DREAMS? Cult movie from the 80s maybe? Sci-fi? Yup. Same guy as this Conan ripoff? Yup. And over 40 other films in less than 30 years. The man has certainly been prolific - if not particularly good.
Well, he started off on... more

| | 5. F for Fake - Criterion Collection |
| Starring: Orson Welles, Oja Kodar, Joseph Cotten, François Reichenbach, Richard Wilson Directed By: Orson Welles April 26, 2005
If spending time with people who have large, mischievous minds and a certain zest for living interests you, 'F for Fake' shouldn't be missed. The film is, more or less, a commentary on the questionable value of authenticity, woven together as only Orson Welles could. He's the director, but Master of Ceremonies is a more appropriate title. The result is closer to a three ring circus, than its formal... more

| | 6. A Wedding |
| Starring: Carol Burnett, Geraldine Chaplin, Mia Farrow, Lillian Gish, Lauren Hutton Directed By: Robert Altman June 12, 2007
I love this movie. Carol Burnett and Desi Arnaz Jr. along with a dozen of other misfit carachters at the worst wedding of the century. Bridesmaids of horror and a maid of honor in love with her father and every other man, and best men who one is in love with the groom...what a wacky Robert Altman film. This film will keep you laughing and in suspense at the finale. I saw this movie when it came... more

| Starring: Carol Burnett, Desi Arnaz Jr., Paul Newman, Vittorio Gassman, Donald Sutherland Directed By: Robert Altman April 25, 2006
After many years a hunter of seals Essex (Paul Newman) comes home to the city. He beings his wife Vivia (Brigitte Fossey.) Before the greetings is over his extended family meats a violent ending. This is just the beginning for Essex as he must now make sense of this.
In the process we learn of a game "Quintet" that reflects the geometric universe and the sense of life.
Will... more
