| 1. Sailor of the King |
| Starring: Jeffrey Hunter, Michael Rennie, Wendy Hiller, Bernard Lee, Peter van Eyck Directed By: Roy Boulting April 24, 2007
This movie was ok, but it wasn't stunning. The story is a bit long winded, about an ilegalimate son of a British Naval Officer and a British Woman concieved during WW1. The son is brought up by his mother in Canada and joins the Royal Navy during WW2. After being captured by the crew of a German Navy Ship, he escapes with a stolen rifle and single handly takes on the crew of the German Navy Ship, whilst... more

Having not read the book...but knowing of its "classic" status...i gave this video version a try. I have to say i found it a bit boring and tedious... so i gave up on it after about 45 minutes. I found the colloquial English accents difficult to understand at times..which is not unusual for an American, i suppose. I'm sure they are quite authentic...which speaks highly of the cast...but it can be hard... more

| | 3. A Dance to the Music of Time |
| Starring: Gillian Barge, Nicholas Jones, Simon Russell Beale, Annabel Mullion, Richard Pasco August 28, 2007
It is just as expected. If this part of history interests you, this is a wonderful, romantic period piece that includes the development of a character disorder in one role, and a general examination of relationships and their growth through the years. ... more

| | 4. See No Evil |
| Starring: Mia Farrow, Dorothy Alison, Robin Bailey, Diane Grayson, Brian Rawlinson Directed By: Richard Fleischer August 19, 2003
When I was a teenager growing up in NY this film used to be shown on TV late at night. It had an impact on me, and I found myself looking back over the years and appreciating it more and more. See No Evil has the ability to transport the viewer into its strange eerie world with a sense of realism and terror. I love the simplicity of the storyline, the beautiful English setting, the acting, and the... more

| | 5. Jane and the Lost City |
| Starring: Sam J. Jones, Maud Adams, Jasper Carrott, Kirsten Hughes, Graham Stark Directed By: Terry Marcel March 12, 2001
Just wanted to add that the transfer is quite OK. It is fun if you do not expect Indiana Jones and like British humor that is not at Cook and Moore levels but still self mocking and a bit saucy. I picked this up for cheap on the basis of an IMDB indication of the filming in Mauritius and my liking of comic style adventures (like Indiana Jones or Yellowbeard), and found that it was amusing and very... more

| | 6. Lord Peter Wimsey - The Complete Collection |
| Starring: Ian Carmichael, John Quentin, Vivien Heilbron, Anna Cropper, Donald Pickering August 26, 2003
I'm disappointed to read that this series doesn't have subtitles as an option, and that it doesn't have any special features than what I've already seen (the Ian Carmichael interview is about all there is). Surely something as expensive as this should be better padded out.
That said, I enjoyed this series very much and find that it has a romantic quality that brings you back to rewatch... more

| | 7. Lord Peter Wimsey - Murder Must Advertise |
| Starring: Ian Carmichael, Mark Eden, Rachel Herbert, Peter Pratt, Fiona Walker January 07, 2003
I vaguely remember watching Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter Wimsey when this episode first aired in the 1970s. Nearly 20 years ago I first discovered the joys of reading the Dorothy Sayers Wimsey stories and have read nearly all of them.
I just finished reading "Murder Must Advertise" when I purchased this DVD set. The only disappointment--I was well into the book before I realized that... more

| | 9. The Four Feathers (TV Movie) |
| Starring: Beau Bridges, Robert Powell, Simon Ward, Jane Seymour, Harry Andrews Directed By: Don Sharp August 27, 2002
This version of "The four feathers" is excellent, the story is much deeper than the newest version (starring Heath Ledger). Other reviewers have told you what the story is about, so I won't go into that. This movie has an excellent cast including the following: Beau Bridges, Jane Seymour, and Robert Powell. All of the actors do an excellent job at making you believe that they are... more

| | 10. The Pallisers, Set 2 |
| Starring: Susan Hampshire, Philip Latham, Donald Pickering, Moray Watson, Barbara Murray February 27, 2001
The second set of DVDs in the BBC 26-part series "The Pallisers" from the mid 1970s is every bit as good as the first, and features at its core superb performances by Barbara Murray as the sharp and cagey Madame Max Goesler, Philip Latham as the stodgy but goodhearted Plantagent Palliser, and the charming Susan Hampshire as his impish wife, Lady Glencora. These DVDs cover the actions of Trollope's... more
