Episodic? Sort of. Similar to Lucky Star, the Azumanga Daioh anime is compiled from 4-panel gag manga comics of the same name; either you get the joke, or you don't. The manga is wonderful, to see it in anime is exceptional. Azumanga Daioh has also been compared to, strangely enough, the U.S. sitcom "Seinfeld", because of the episodic feel... supposedly a non-story arc affair. But realistically... more

Starring: Tomoko Kaneda, Yuki Matsuoka, Chieko Higuchi, Rie Tanaka, Yu Asakawa Directed By: Nishikiori Hiroshi September 20, 2005
Azumanga Daioh...Wow what can I say?...I don't love it. I don't hate it. I'm rather fond of it but nothing cult classic. It's well High School. It focuses on the most extreme of characters. Osaka is rather spacey, and instead of her being just spacey she is oblivious...to...nearly everything. Then Yomi the girl who is self conscious about herself always trying to maintain her weight. She is fairly... more

The final three episodes of the Azumanga Daioh anime deals with the girls studying for their college entrance exams. As Chiyo-chan is going to study in America, she doesn't have to study. Instead, the cute twelve-year old invites her friends to her house to study, during which she makes snacks for them. However, her comment that it's funny how time passes sinks into them, how they had all sorts... more

The Azumanga girls are now high school seniors. They are back together but Kaorin gets moved to the homeroom of Mr. Kimura, who isn't exactly her favourite person. Not only that, but Kimura nominated Kaorin to be class rep. Chiyo and Tomo have had some hair alterations in the process.
Chiyo-chan, already ahead in her college plans, decides to go to America, despite the dangers there... more

| 5. Azumanga Daioh - Entrance (Vol. 1) |
|
Starring: Artist Not Provided April 27, 2004
First off this series storyline is almost non existent. Which is an ok thing, it's based off Japanese high school girls daily lives. With different things happening each episode. Now in my opinion they went about this the right way, people that disagree well maybe you aren't seeing it correctly. In your school lives you just hang out with your friends have some good laughs and do other random stuff... more

| 8. Azumanga Daioh: Complete Collection |
|
By: Artist Not Provided October 14, 2008
I first want to make clear that my low rating has to do with the fact that this is just the same 26 episodes you can get on individual dvds or in the Class Album. The Vol. 2 threw me and without any description to go off of, I foolishly hoped that it would somehow cover another awesome year with the Azumanga girls in 26 new episodes. No such luck.
Anyway, if you've got all 6 original dvds... more

| 9. Azumanga Daioh - Rivals (Vol. 3) |
|
Starring: Artist Not Provided July 20, 2004
This collection of 5 episodes makes Azumanga Daioh Collection 3 my favourite. It gives Chiyo-chan her own special episode, introduces Kagura, continues to show Sakaki as a closet romantic, and has some exasperating but funny moments with Tomo-chan.
The trail of dust billowing from wildcat Tomo rushing towards school, eagerly awaiting the beginning of a new school year and a class shuffle... more
