| 1. Three Great Novels: The Woman in White; The Moonstone; The Law and the Lady |
|
By: Wilkie Collins Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA August 18, 1994
Wilkie Collins created a fantastic novel which could be read in the manner that most of the reviewers have interpreted this book. Boy meets a mystery woman, falls in love with a look-alike who is forced to marry an evil man and eventually the woman in white reveals some secrets and conveniently dies. The early lovers reunite with the help throughout the book of the sensible sister. What really happened?... more

| 2. Man and Wife |
|
By: Wilkie Collins Publisher: Echo Library September 12, 2005
This is a great book about the powerlessness of women in Great Britain, circa 1850, and how young Anne Silvester was finally able to overcome a looming hideous fate and triumph in the end. Equally as thrilling as "The Woman in White."... more

|
By: Wilkie Collins Publisher: Echo Library September 12, 2005
Wilkie Collins is one of the great underappreciated writers. His books have an immediacy and subtlety that seems fresh even today, even though his plots sometimes creak -- for example, see his novel "Armadale." As with Trollope, he had a very keen insight into human motivation and emotion, and is adept at descriptive writing. This little novel doesn't rise to that level, but is great fun, nonetheless... more

By: Wilkie Collins Publisher: BiblioLife August 18, 2008
I thought the story "After Dark" was kind of sad, I felt bad for Leah's husband, I couldnt even imagine what its like not being able to see, I dont know how I would of handled it, but she did it in such a wounderful way. Keeping her spirits up, even when he was sad. Then taking his story telling talents and putting them into good use... more

|
By: Wilkie Collins Publisher: Echo Library September 12, 2005
I really enjoy Wilkie Collins, and this book did not disappoint. My favorite of his is The Woman in White, but I this book is possibly my second favorite. It truly is a classic. There is a mystery to solve, and there is also a love triangle. But there isn't too much "schmaltz" or sweetness in my opinion. It's also a fast read, since it isn't a very long book with unnecessary details... more
