| 1. The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference |
|
By: Malcolm Gladwell Publisher: Back Bay Books January 07, 2002
One of the greatest books I have recently read. This is a real paradigm shifter.
The central argument of the text, is expressed most elegantly in Gladwell's ending,
"Look at the world around you. It may seem like an immovable, implacable place. It is not. With the slightest push - in just the right place - it can be tipped."
Small changes in key variables can... more

| 2. Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion |
|
By: Gary Vaynerchuk Publisher: HarperStudio October 13, 2009
Overview: "Pursue your passion. Life is short, enjoy it."
The book goes into blogging, which is not my favorite medium of communication. However, the overall theme of "pursue your passions" is a theme everyone should learn to follow. Many people are too afraid.
My advice: Get over it.

|
By: David Meerman Scott Publisher: Wiley January 12, 2010
"Before the Web came along, there were only three ways to get noticed: buy expensive advertising, beg the mainstream media to tell your story for you, or hire a huge sales staff to bug people one at a time about your products." -- says David Meerman Scott in the introduction to "The New Rules of Marketing and PR." This book is an excellent overview of web marketing principles. I recommend this text... more

| 5. Blue Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make Competition Irrelevant |
|
By: W. Chan Kim, Renée Mauborgne Publisher: Harvard Business Press February 03, 2005
A must read strategy book for entrepreneurs and practitioners, The Blue Ocean Strategy has stood the test of time. This breakthrough work provides insights on how to take advantage of "white spaces" in the marketplace and compete against non-competition. The primary argument by Chan and Mauborgne is that organizations should focus on making markets instead of competing within them.

| 6. Sway: The Irresistible Pull of Irrational Behavior: Library Edition |
|
By: Rom Brafman Publisher: Playaway 2008-08
He takes many pages to get an idea across, almost like he's trying to bulk the book up. There isn't a lot of meat in it, but some interesting points. I don't recommend anyone buy it, but if someone loans you a copy it is a fun quick read. ... more

| 7. Purple Cow, New Edition: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable--Includes new bonus chapter |
|
By: Seth Godin Publisher: Portfolio Hardcover November 12, 2009
I bought the book with high hopes but after reading it felt that it lacked anything substantial. The concepts presented are very simple and there's nothing new presented in it. There are about 1000 books that are better on branding, marketing, and transforming a business. I would definitely save the money on this one... more

| 8. Fascinate: Your 7 Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation |
|
By: Sally Hogshead Publisher: HarperBusiness February 09, 2010
I can't figure out what the hype is all about. In an attempt to be hip and funny, the author includes all kinds of bizarre self-references and footnotes with corny observations. I think she assumes that if she mentions the word "sex" enough that the book will be fascinating. Well...this becomes the third book out of the hundreds I've ordered at Amazon that I am returning. If you want a good book on... more

By: Dan Ariely Publisher: Harper May 19, 2009
I was going to buy this for my Kindle, but when I saw that the price was over $10, I balked. Does that make me predictably irrational or does it just mean I won't overpay?... more

Overall a very useful, practical guide to direct others into agreement. It seemed to be somewhat of an expansion of Dr. Cialdini's "Influence" work. Enjoyable, educational, and entertaining... more
