| 1. Saving the World (Maximum Ride, Book 3) |
|
By: James Patterson Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers July 01, 2008
I rated this a two instead of a one because it's a children's book so I'll cut it some slack. Note that I said children's book, not teen's. In my mind, anyone above 12 should be insulted by how confusing, contrived and unfocused the plot is. This book caused me to drop the series, so I never got around to reading the Final Warning (which, according to reviews, was much worse than this one).more

| 3. Owl at Home (I Can Read Book 2) |
|
By: Arnold Lobel Publisher: HarperCollins September 29, 1982
We absolutely love all the Arnold Lobel books (especially the Frog and Toad series), but Owl at Home is my 2 1/2 year old's favorite. It is consistently what he asks me to read him before bed (or any other time for that matter). The stories are very simply worded but profound. Lobel writes and illustrates wonderful little books that are sweet, smart and rich with meaning. I highly recommend any of... more

| 4. The Story about Ping: StoryTape (StoryTape, Puffin) |
|
By: Marjorie Flack, Kurt Wiese Publisher: Puffin October 01, 1993
I loved this book when I was a kid. My mom used to read it to me because she loved it when she was a kid. And I read it to my daughter. I've read some reviews that it is racist and gives a horrible message but to me it was just a story about a duck. I could go on and on about my own dissection of people's worst fears of not being politically correct enough for this world, but that would take too long... more

| 5. Hoot |
|
By: Carl Hiaasen Publisher: Yearling December 27, 2005
My 9-year-old brought this home from the school library and upon reading it, informed me the word "damn" is used multiple times in the book. While it's not the most horrible thing in the world, I guess, teachers and parents should be aware it's in there. I'm puzzled as to why a children's book, and one that's apparently won awards, has swear words in it. Also, the synopsis on the book jacket described... more

| 7. The Pigeon Loves Things That Go! |
|
By: Mo Willems Publisher: Hyperion Book CH May 16, 2005
This book seemed like a half-hearted afterthought compared to the very entertaining original, "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!", which still makes my now-2 and now-3 year olds giggle. Whereas this book was boring after the 2nd read... more

| 8. Goose on The Loose (Usborne Phonics Readers) |
|
By: Phil Roxbee Cox Publisher: Usborne Pub 2006-01
My 15 month son loves this book. Of course it may have something to do with the main character being a goose. He loves geese. He also greatly enjoys the farm animals in the story. The flaps on the pages are easy to open and are very durable. At this time is unable to tear of the flaps unlike other flap books we own. ... more

| 9. Who Says Quack? (Pudgy Board Book) |
|
By: Jerry Smath Publisher: Grosset & Dunlap May 02, 1991
My 18-month old carries this book around with him during the day. The photos keep him busy and he loves turning the pages.
There really isn't a story to the book. Just animal noises. Fun to read and I've heard him practicing the noises when he looks at the book himself.
Cute book. I'm glad I bought it. ... more
