| 1. Inkdeath (Inkheart) |
|
By: Cornelia Funke Publisher: The Chicken House September 26, 2008
This last entry in the Inkheart series was difficult for me to get through, unlike the first two books, which were real page-turners. I believe this book would have been vastly improved by some major editing. Also, a warning for parents of younger readers: this book is quite dark; cruelty and gory descriptions abound. Meggie's character is shortchanged, as she is shunted to the sidelines with a weak... more

|
By: Cornelia Funke Publisher: Scholastic Paperbacks January 01, 2009
The negative reviews of this book amaze me. ITS A CHILDS BOOK THAT IS WHY THE STORY IS SIMPLISTIC. If you are a kid, or an adult who likes to read fantasy, then I believe you will enjoy this, or anything by Funke for that matter. Just don't expect a complex plot because ITS A CHILDRENS BOOK. My kids like these books way better than Potter and I have to agree... more

| 3. Inkspell (Inkheart) |
|
By: Cornelia Funke Publisher: The Chicken House April 01, 2007
I thoroughly enjoyed Lynn Redgrave's reading of Inkheart, and looked forward to listening to Inkspell. Now I find Brendan Fraser a likeable actor, but his reading of this story is so bad I have given up on it and will read the book instead. He resorts to obnoxious vocal caricatures to differentiate between the various characters -- not sure if this was because he thought it would benefit his listeners... more

Their aunt has tracked them to Venice and hired a private detective, but she's only interested in reclaiming the younger one. By: Cornelia Funke Publisher: Chicken House Ltd June 06, 2005
Dragonrider is an exciting fantasy fiction book by Cornelia Funke. It tells the amazing story of a young boy Ben and his adventures with Firedrake, his dragon friend, who must return to the Rim of Heaven to escape the evil Nettlebrand, who is trying to destroy the last remaining dragons on earth. In the start of the adventure, Ben meets Firedrake, a heroic dragon, and his mate, Sorrell, a grouchy... more

| 6. Igraine the Brave |
|
By: Cornelia Funke Publisher: Chicken House Ltd April 07, 2008
Igraine is brave, but in a very tame sense. For some reason, I never got the feeling she was really in any danger, unlike scenes in Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. As such, she just seemed to be going through the motions and I didn't get the feeling that she learned much from her adventures. I read a lot of books to children as a substitute teacher, and there are better ones out there... more

| 7. The Princess Knight |
|
By: Cornelia Funke Publisher: The Chicken House March 01, 2004
This is one of my all time favorite stories for girls who like to be princesses and want to climb trees or be anything else. She is a kind and wonderful person who learns to be a knight. The artwork is great. I have read it many times and the words still flow off the tongue and make me smile... more

| 8. Pirate Girl |
|
By: Cornelia Funke, Chantal Wright Publisher: The Chicken House June 01, 2005
As the father of two girls, I'm always glad to see a book that shows my girl that she can be powerful. Sadly, most of the messages she gets from popular culture teach her to objectify herself and buckle at the knees when a prince walks by. Pirate Girl offers a marvelous anecdote to the Barbie-nation. Pirate girl is a great protagonist, and she's backed up by a wonderful crew of women. The story... more

| 9. Princess, A Pirate, And One Wild Brother |
|
By: Cornelia Funke Publisher: The Chicken House April 01, 2008
I ordered this book hoping that it would be an easy chapter book for my third grade class. It's not; it's a collection of three picture books bound together in one volume. They're cute, but too young for third graders. Some picture books have such wonderful writing and/or themes that they're great for all ages; this isn't one of them. No fault of its own; but be aware that it's really for younger kids... more

| 10. Ghosthunters Boxset 1-4 |
|
By: Cornelia Funke Publisher: The Chicken House August 01, 2008
We had the first book in the series and my six year old loved it. I found the whole set and got it for his birthday. He enjoyed all of the books! They are a fun little series about an elderly woman ghost hunter and her partner who is a young boy. They encounter many different types of ghosts and use different methods to conquer them. Fun and spooky without being scary.
