| 1. Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations |
|
By: Clay Shirky Publisher: Penguin (Non-Classics) February 24, 2009
Hooked by the wonderful opening story of how the Internet enabled a woman to recover her lost-or-stolen mobile phone, I was fascinated by the many and growing implications of social networking on the Internet. Much like viral illnesses spread among population groups, blogs, Wikipedia stories and YouTube videos spread like wildfire or disappear in a New York minute depending on their quality and value... more

| 2. Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business |
|
By: Neil Postman Publisher: Penguin (Non-Classics) December 27, 2005
Postman delivers a stirring perspective of the effects technology plays on society today, both politically and socially. The book was clearly before its time and almost all scenarios could be applied to today's technologies. It's a must read for anyone looking to better understand how technology has shaped their life and ideals as well as for anyone who is concerned about the origins of current public... more

| 3. iPhone Application Development For Dummies |
|
By: Neal Goldstein Publisher: For Dummies November 09, 2009
The content of the book is basic and is OK as an introduction, however there are a few things I don't like about this book:
1) Some key steps are usually missing or not highlighted enough. For example, in order to dismiss the keyboard on the "ReturnToMe" application, there's a very important setting that needs to be made in Interface Builder, without it, it doesn't work. This part is missing... more

If you want to recieve a broad exposure to entry level topics in ham radio, this book is for you. If you just want to pass the license exam, buy the Q&A book. If you're buying a book for your girlfriend to get her license, get the Q & A book.
This book is well written, informative and a great intro to ham radio for the person who has the time to read about it. I love the ARRL license... more

| 6. The Shut Up and Shoot Documentary Guide: A Down & Dirty DV Production |
|
By: Anthony Q. Artis Publisher: Focal Press September 24, 2007
Well written reference book with some very good examples and even better things-to-watch-out-for. The disk that comes with it is full of useful pdf's, too. Plenty of graphics, pictures, and interviews with professionals, as well. I would suspect that the experienced documentary filmmaker probably already knows the information within, so this is best recommended for those who have the equipment... more

| 7. Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express 9 |
|
By: David Nahmani Publisher: Peachpit Press November 16, 2009
This book is great. I'm new to Logic and it broke everything down for me - clear, concise, lots of pictures (which are helpful). The exercises included are great and make for a hands-on learning experience. The list of keyboard shortcuts in the back is particularly great - I printed out a copy for my wall next to my Mac and it's really helped me speed up my workflow. Highly recommended to anyone... more

| 9. Android Wireless Application Development |
|
By: Shane Conder, Lauren Darcey Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional September 07, 2009
This book does a good job brushing on most of the APIs in Android, but the code examples are lacking. Almost none of the code examples are comprehensive, so basically this book just gives you hints as to what classes/functions need to be exercised for a given functionality. I almost always needed to consult google for better examples.
This is definitely not the best book if you are new... more

| 10. Pro Tools 101 Official Courseware, Version 8 (Artistpro) |
|
By: Digidesign Publisher: Course Technology PTR January 21, 2009
This is a total waste of money. I would use stronger language but it wouldn't make a difference. It provides no useful istructional video only video extras of special features. I wanted a video tutorial I got a book of the help system subjects . Don't waste your money on this. You can get just as much help from the built in help system. I hate being ripped off!!!!!!... more
