By: Marlena de Blasi Publisher: Virago Press Ltd March 20, 2003
I loved the book and tried to buy more but when going back to your computer, it wouldn't let me. Because I had changed my carrier from [...], it kept saying I wasn't right...my password wasn't right nor my e-mail address and there was no way I could get past all that. They suggested each time change my password and 3 times I did just that and STILL it kept... more

By: G. K. Chesterton Publisher: IndoEuropeanPublishing.com December 15, 2009
I'm a huge Chesterton fan- at used bookstores I'll pick up everything by him they have, just so that I can give them away to friends, family, and interested strangers.
This is the work of Chesterton's I've read the most. I'll pick this up at least once a year for a re-read. It is packed full of humor, wisdom, insights into society, and all wrapped up in a darn good plot. more

| 4. On Writing Romance: How to Craft a Novel That Sells |
|
By: Leigh Michaels Publisher: Writers Digest Books January 30, 2007
I am trained in script and story editing, have produced literally hundreds of books to unabridged audio and am a bit of a writing book junkie - by no means am I a beginner in storycraft. I bought this book because I wanted something tailored to the romance genre and that is exactly what this book gives you. Yes, you could spend hours on the internet finding similar information and, yes, if you've done... more

|
By: Kate Walker Publisher: Studymates Ltd July 30, 2008
I have bought this book from the point of view of a frustrated writer. Ms. Walker takes so much time explaining matters that have defeated me in the past. Its been a wonderful experience, I learned so much that I can use in my day to day writing. Ms. Walker has given me hope for the future.
One of the best how to books I have ever read. I am going to polish up my manuscript using the knowledge... more

| 6. Writing the Romantic Comedy |
|
By: Billy Mernit Publisher: Harper Paperbacks July 31, 2001
Overall, the book is very good. But it really just gives an intro to each of the topics. For instance, I bought the book primarily to learn how to write comedy. But only 23 pages out of 286 are devoted to that. It's pretty much the same for all the topics. On the plus side, it does cover a lot of ground and opens the door to some topics you probably didn't think were all that important. Also... more

| 8. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing Erotic Romance |
|
By: Alison Kent Publisher: Alpha September 05, 2006
This manual is great and likely different from some of the other how-to manuals on the subject of romance fiction that you might have already read.
Kent spends a great deal of time dissecting what makes erotic romance fiction different from romance fiction. Detailing the distinction between genres/subgenres is what makes this guide different. I also really appreciate the insightful guidance... more

| 9. Footsteps: Adventures of a Romantic Biographer |
|
By: Richard Holmes Publisher: Vintage April 30, 1996
I thoroughly enjoyed Holmes's narrative detailing his efforts to trace journeys of some of his biographical subjects in Europe. Much has been written on the art and craft of biography, but Holmes presents biographical research as a physical undertaking and, at times, an adventure. His efforts to trace his subjects' journeys is nicely tied to the prevailing conditions of the times, and one can trace... more
