Amazon.com: The most phenomenal recording in rock & roll history is thoroughly examined in Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon. The Floyd's 1973 masterpiece remained on bestseller charts for nearly 14 years, and its enduring importance is honored here by all four members of Pink Floyd and key personnel (engineer Alan Parsons, mixing supervisor Chris Thomas, sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, and others) who played essential roles in the landmark album's creation. Produced for the Classic Albums series that originally aired on VH-1, this thorough and thought-provoking study highlights a track-by-track dissection of the LP's master tapes (including the spoken-word passages that bookend the album), superbly interlaced with archival footage, early demo tapes, concert animations, and latter-day acoustic performances by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright to demonstrate each track's contribution to the final mix--a sonic exploration that extends to the illuminating bonus features. Informative interviews abound (including Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke), and much-deserved credit is given to saxophonist Dick Parry, solo vocalist Clare Torry, and former Capitol Records chairman Bhaskar Menon, who fostered the album's U.S. commercial success. For Floyd fans, musicians, and studio technicians alike, this is a must-have addition to any DVD library. --Jeff Shannon
It's Called "The Making Of....", not a music CD guys...... I have to say that I actually don't own this DVD, but I have seen it on VH1. If you are a Floyd fan, you have got to see this - it's fantastic. But if you want to buy this because you think it's a concert of Dark Side of Moon - don't!!! It's called "The Making of The Dark Side Of The Moon"....it isn't the music CD or a concert video. I don't see how some of these guys are giving this a 1 and 2 star rating because it doesn't have enough music on it - that's just plain stupid.
a must for any fan Any one who loved the "Dark Side of the Moon" should see this. Especially for all you musicians and recording engineers. I bought the album when it was first released on vinyl and wore it out, and bought it again. And bought it again years later on CD. This DVD is a must see for all true Floyd fans.
the making of the Dark side of the Moon Pink Floyd For those of us who enjoy Pink Floyd and the classic Dark side of the Moon, the band takes you through the process of the recording, inspirations etc. I couldn't rate this any higher!
Inside The Studio, Comprehending The Concept Part of a series that originally aired on VH-1, the importance of chronicling the production of this album is a vital piece of rock-n-roll history.
Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright are interviewed about the writing and recording process, which was truly a band effort.
There is concert and studio footage, video clips and original demo recording sessions. Interesting sidebars include the commentary by engineer Alan Parsons and cover artist Storm Thorgerson, whose concept is a defining moment in the merging of art with music.
New ground was being paved in studio techniques and there is special focus on the creation of the clock loops on Time, the cash register sounds on Money and the stunning vocal chorus on The Great Gig in the Sky.
The DVD is essential for Pink Floyd fans and music historians, as grand light is shed on the brilliant work done to produce a classic album.
The making of The Dark Side This movie was ok but compared to some of there other videos, it was not the greatest.
