The music is far from great. Not to be dramatic but this was such a stupid movie. The series is great, however this movie strays far from what made the series enjoyable.

I agree with the reviewers who have praised the photography,the extensive use of Ry Cooder's music, the sets and costumes and the clever casting. Those elements make the film a pleasure to look at and to listen to. I realized after seeing the movie again though, that those sensitively executed elements don't add up to a great film. I remember watching TWOK for the first time on television back in the 1980s and was impressed at how much detail the blu-ray version contains. The picture is very crisp and easily outshines its DVD predecessor. I still enjoy the timeless themes of this Star Trek film: Friendship,loss,courage, revenge,mid-life crisis, etc. and I doubt I will ever tire of watching this classic. This review is specific to the 2009 version. The good news here is the movie: still the same great film it has always been. The bad news is, this has the lamest special features I've ever seen on a dvd.
