| 1. The Night of the Hunter |
| Starring: Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, Billy Chapin, Lillian Gish, Peter Graves Directed By: Charles Laughton January 25, 2000
This film is fantastic, if you're familiar with it then you already know and if not you will soon find out. I recently bought this film after forgetting about it and remembering it while listening to "Left Hand, Right Hand" by the Murder City Devils which is based on the Night of the Hunter. My only problem with this edition is that is in full screen. When I bought I thought it had to be in wide screen... more

| | 2. Follow Me, Boys! |
| Starring: Fred MacMurray, Vera Miles, Lillian Gish, Charles Ruggles, Elliott Reid Directed By: Norman Tokar February 03, 2004
We LOVE this movie, it is an excellent depiction of what the scouts stand for and has a good story line also. Great for the family and any scout function... more

| | 3. Portrait of Jennie |
| Starring: Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotten, Ethel Barrymore, Lillian Gish, Cecil Kellaway Directed By: William Dieterle October 19, 2004
Since Joseph Cotten is one of my favorite actors, it's no wonder that this is one of my favorite movies. Cotten is exceptional in this role. He is quite the tortured soul in this movie. He wants to connect with the young girl that shows up every so often in his life but quickly vanishes before he can find out more about her.
The supporting cast is wonderful as well. Jennifer Jones... more

| | 4. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton Film Collection (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf 2-Disc Special Edition / The Comedians / The Sandpiper / The V.I.P.s) 5 Disc Set |
| Starring: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Eva Marie Saint, George Segal, Sandy Dennis Directed By: Anthony Asquith, Mike Nichols, Peter Glenville, Vincente Minnelli December 05, 2006
Features:- Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?:Mike Nichols' first directorial effort represents a milestone in psychological realism and "foul" language in American cinema. George and Martha, as played superbly and without vanity by Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, are as far from the bourgeois 1950s perfect married couple as you can get, alternatively badgering, berating, abusing and loving each ot
Great collection. I love these two people, Burton & Taylor. Amazing depth. Only choosing poignant characters to portrait. I love the fact that the dvds come with the thin sleeves also. I would have liked booklets... more

| | 5. Duel in the Sun |
| Starring: Gregory Peck, Joseph Cotten, Jennifer Jones, Lionel Barrymore, Herbert Marshall May 25, 2004
I have seen DUEL IN THE SUN many times. When I teach melodrama to my drama students, this is one of the best examples I can find to show them the full characteristics of the genre in all their colorful splendor. And no matter how often I see DUEL IN THE SUN, the film always hits a deep emotional chord in the most intimate regions of my being. It is high camp, true, but I also find it truly artistic... more

| | 6. Birth of a Nation Silent Film Plus Bo |
| Starring: Lillian Gish Directed By: D. W. Griffith April 26, 2005
D. W. Griffith's film "Birth of a Nation" ranks as a significant piece of myth-making activity on behalf of "The Cause" of the Southern Cofederacy, of (caucasian) national unity as the Great War was underway in Europe, and of perpetuating hideous stereotypes of African Americans. Every North American will profit from watching the film and thus coming to understand how their forebears had been propagandized... more

| | 7. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn |
| Starring: Jim Dale, Patrick Day, Frederic Forrest, Lillian Gish, David Barry Gray Directed By: Peter H. Hunt February 20, 2007
When this ran on PBS in 1985, I video taped the entire broadcast over four nights. Essentially, the only differences between the 240 minute version and the 213 minute version, are station breaks with members of the cast making appearances asking for financial support for local PBS stations, and beginning and ending credits. The 213 minutes on this DVD is the full dramatic performance. I suspect... more

| | 8. The Unforgiven |
| Starring: Burt Lancaster, Audrey Hepburn, Audie Murphy, John Saxon, Charles Bickford Directed By: John Huston May 20, 2003
Takes a while to lay down the plot. And the latter half of the movie is kind of an over-long gunfight with Indians having nothing better to do than riding around the house getting shot down. The story and frontier setting of the story are somewhat interesting, but am I mistaken or does Audrey Hepburn have blue eyes? How many Indians have blue eyes? That and some of the dialogue between Burt and... more

| | 9. Griffith Masterworks 2 (Way Down East / D.W. Griffith: Father of Film / The Avenging Conscience / Abraham Lincoln / The Struggle / Sally of the Sawdust) |
| Starring: Lillian Gish, Walter Huston, W.C. Fields, Carol Dempster, Richard Barthelmess Directed By: D.W. Griffith November 18, 2008
I have already seen all of the features in this set previously released on VHS. They were high quality tapes to begin with and were put out by Kino as well (with the exception of THE AVENGING CONSCIENCE). It's great to have an upgraded version of CONSCIENCE but I wish the set had also included Griffith's neo-realist masterpiece ISN'T LIFE WONDERFUL? which has yet to be issued on DVD.
There... more

| | 10. Intolerance |
| Starring: Lillian Gish, Douglas Fairbanks, Mae Marsh, Robert Harron, F.A. Turner Directed By: D.W. Griffith November 18, 2003
I did not have any problem with this item. I would buy from Amazon.com again. It was an Alpha Video and in the past about 75% of Alpha Video's have one or both problems in the video production and in the audio. I just received an order containing two Alpha videos and I will be returning both because the video quality is very poor and the audio is not much better... more
