This is a sweet and poignant film and Deniro is wonderful in it. Have a tissue handy. The other reviews here tell you the plot so you already know. Watch this movie, you won't be sorry, but again, have a tissue handy. ... more

Features:- An epic biopic depicting the early years of legendary director and aviator Howard Hughes' career, from the late 1920's to the mid-1940's.Running Time: 170 min. Format: BLU-RAY DISC Genre: DRAMA Rating: PG-13 Age: 085391186281 UPC: 085391186281 Manufacturer No: 118628
Fascinating and entertaining biography of Howard Hughes. My only complaint is that it ended abruptly, leaving me wanting to find out what happened after that; what happened during the rest of Hughes' life. If it weren't for the ending (or the lack thereof) I would have given it 5 stars... more

| | 4. Pearl Harbor (Two-Disc 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition) |
| Starring: Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale, Josh Hartnett, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jon Voight Directed By: Michael Bay December 04, 2001
A better Pearl Harbor attack film is 1970's Tora Tora Tora, made at a time when CGI didn't exist (and before Ben Affleck's career existed). Those filmmakers had to rely on models, matte shots, and sometimes real airplanes, ships & explosions for their special effects. Also, Tora Tora Tora takes a straightforward, almost docu-drama approach to this historical event -- no cheesy love triangle... more

| | 6. Emma (A&E, 1997) |
| Starring: Kate Beckinsale, Bernard Hepton, Mark Strong, Samantha Bond, James Hazeldine Directed By: Diarmuid Lawrence October 26, 1999
The Hollywood "Emma" starring Gwyneth Paltrow was a total disaster, the director having decided Jane Austen was a "cute" writer whose novel therefore deserved a relentlessly "cute" treatment. This BBC version gets it pretty much right, especially in its presentation of an older Mr. Knightley, a choice that preserves the novel's surprise when he turns out to be the hero. Kate Beckinsale is a perfect... more

| | 7. Much Ado About Nothing |
| Starring: Kenneth Branagh, Michael Keaton, Robert Sean Leonard, Keanu Reeves, Emma Thompson January 07, 2003
I suspect the amount of enjoyment one receives out of this film is probably inversely proportional to how well one knows the play. Visual cues and musical swells often move the plot along instead of dialog or spoken exposition, Branagh working from a text that seems to encompass about half the original material. All of this combines to create a sort of pastiche of the best bits of the play where it's... more

| | 8. Alice Through the Looking Glass |
| Starring: Kate Beckinsale, Ian Holm, Penelope Wilton, Siân Phillips, Geoffrey Palmer Directed By: John Henderson January 11, 2005
I found this movie in a bargain bin and I'm quite happy about that because it was one of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen. I looked at the cast and was quite eager to watch it. Some of my favorite actors in one of my favorite stories? How could I go wrong? I really should have known better when an Alice was being played by an adult. Not even these very talented people could make this movie... more

| | 10. Pearl Harbor [Blu-ray] |
| Starring: Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale, Josh Hartnett, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jon Voight Directed By: Michael Bay December 19, 2006
Features:- History comes alive in the unforgettable epic motion picture PEARL HARBOR, the spectacular blockbuster brought to the screen by Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay. Astounding visual and audio effects put you at the center of the event that changed the world -- that early Sunday morning in paradise when warplanes screamed across the peaceful skies of Pearl Harbor and jolted America into World War II
First of all, This movie is great, and even better on bluray. As far as entertainment goes its 5 stars but i gave this movie 4 stars because there was too much love story telling more than the actual pearl harbor story. It was a bit distracting when the blood is rushing and flowing in other parts of my body besides my brain, I like the love story, but i feel it overpowered the historical attack... more
