Again I have the experience of watching straight through a movie that I had always heard about, but never actually watched; I like to think of this permitting me to watch it fresh, and to see the movie on its own terms - purely as a movie, a bit of entertainment, an agreeable way of spending an evening.

| | 6. The Big Heat |
| Starring: Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame, Jocelyn Brando, Alexander Scourby, Lee Marvin Directed By: Fritz Lang December 18, 2001
I won't bore you with another summary of the plot which previous reviews already covered. Just a few comments that may have not been made yet.
The editing of this film is perfect. Many films of the period drag and have scenes that are slow or waste space. This one has none of that. That's one reason why it feels modern.
The casting of The Big Heat is also first rate; there... more

| Starring: Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, Charles Durning, Kenneth McMillan, Ed Flanders April 17, 2007
Saw this movie when it came out in the theaters ever so long ago, and haven't seen it since until this week. Having watched it, I am left scratching my head wondering what I found so appealing in this movie 30 years ago. I have no problems with the powerhouse acting of the two leads or for that matter the other characters as well. Excellent performances. Beyond that, the story seems slow and at... more

| | 10. Cloak & Dagger |
| Starring: Henry Thomas, Dabney Coleman, Michael Murphy, Christina Nigra, John McIntire Directed By: Richard Franklin November 23, 2004
This film was about a magician posturing as a military man. He lures the antagonist into a ring of lies, deceit and espionage all the while appearing and disappearing at his liberty. This film was very confusing. The choice of traits given to the magician were very odd. He popped up at the most inopportune times. This may have worked for a comedy but there was really nothing funny about this. Why the... more
