| | 4. The Golden Compass (Widescreen Single-Disc Edition) |
| Starring: Kathy Bates, John Bett, Jim Carter, Tom Courtenay, Daniel Craig April 29, 2008
Features:- In a wondrous parallel world where witches soar the skies and Ice Bears rule the frozen North, a young girl sets out on a quest to save her friend. Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: SCI-FI/FANTASY Rating: PG-13 Age: 794043120114 UPC: 794043120114 Manufacturer No: 1000037811
I say "shame," because I'm afraid the poor performance of this movie will get you to not read the series of 3 books it's based on (this film is an adaption of the first). Not reading those books would be a tremendous loss.
And I think you'd have to read "The Golden Compass" to understand why the reason the movie didn't do better. It wasn't a problem with the director or the actors or... more

| | 5. Lorna Doone |
| Starring: Martin Clunes, Richard Coyle, Aidan Gillen, Amelia Warner, Anthony Calf Directed By: Mike Barker May 29, 2001
Having read the book I can say that this adaption is not faithful to it - but in my opinion it has improved upon the book.
It is a long movie, but well worth watching in one sitting instead of the two parts. It tells the story of John who witnesses his father being murdered as a young boy, and who grows up with a deep hate for the Doone family. Little does John know, but the girl he met... more

| | 6. No Escape |
| Starring: Ray Liotta, Lance Henriksen, Stuart Wilson (II), Kevin Dillon, Kevin J. O'Connor July 29, 1998
On the surface, this looks like an overly violent, dumb and seedy movie because it features nothing but hardened criminals plus the normal sadistic warden Hollywood always shows in all modern-day films.
But...it turns out the story isn't as sordid as it looks and the violence, although plentiful, is somehow not overdone. Also, the chief villain " Walter Marek" (Stuart Wilson) is... more

| | 7. Wycliffe - Series 1 |
| Starring: Jack Shepherd, Jimmy Yuill, Helen Masters, Tim Wylton, Aaron Harris Directed By: Ferdinand Fairfax;Martyn Friend;A.J. Quinn February 17, 2009
I'm keeping an open mind and will see more Wycliffes, but the length of the stories (45-50 minutes) is inadequate for the form. There is not enough time and space in which to develop characters, not enough time and space in which to develop subplots and, hence, mysteries and not enough time to linger over the lush Cornwall settings. I'm not arguing that it's all about the time. Frost is wonderful... more

| | 9. Wycliffe - Series Two |
| Starring: Jack Shepherd, Jimmy Yuill, Helen Masters, Tim Wylton, Aaron Harris Directed By: Martyn Friend;Patrick Lau;Steve Goldie;Michael Owen Morris October 13, 2009
This is one of the best series ever. Basically a police procedural, the series is superbly plotted, written, acted, and directed. The regular actors project their characters beautifully, and the viewer really comes to care about them. The plots are riveting, with superb guest stars more than holding their own.
The series takes place in Cornwall, with beautiful scenery, but the situations... more

| | 10. Warrior Queen |
| Starring: Alex Kingston, Steven Waddington, Emily Blunt, Leanne Rowe, Ben Faulks Directed By: Bill Anderson (III) January 06, 2004
If you know anything about Boudicca and are looking for a both entertaining and accurate movie, your half right. Entertaining it is, accurate, far from it.
To give away what has been edited or deleted from the facts would give away the story, but as someone who is educated on her story,I was not pleased. If I would have known how inaccurate this movie was, I would have not purchased it... more
