However, there are very few titles that I would actually recommend to my non-anime fan friends that I wouldn't feel embarrassed about showing them. ... more

...so I have to take off one star.
I don't have much to say about this true anime classic that other reviewers have not already said. If you like anime, even if you are a recent convert, watch this movie. Like the best of Miyazaki's work, it's truly special. It desperately deserves a new release from a proper widescreen master, but sadly, I doubt it will ever get one. I finally... more

When I saw the annoucement of this re-issue I was very excited because OMG is my favourite anime series, and as I have the previous editions of the OVAs, I thought this collector's edition would a must have.
For instance, the price is expensive for a package that is not worthy enough, and three DVDs including pictures downloaded from internet, is very dissapointing.
This collector's... more

Usually it's a bad thing when a movie gets lost in its own minutae and details, but in the case of the third Patlabor, it actually compelled me to rewatch the movie three times -- just to make sure I was pulling together all of the subtleties. This type of fan vigilance wouldn't have happened if it weren't for all the strong virtues of this animation. For one, the pacing and mood of the entire piece... more
