I bought and watched the Hurt Locker (Blu-Ray DVD)weeks before the Academy Awards. I also watched Avatar at the local cinema theater before the Oscars. So when the entertainment reporters began naming the Hurt Locker as a possible pick to upset Avatar as the best picture of the year,I thought that would be an absurdity. Imagine my shock and dismay when the reporters were right in their prediction!... more

| | 4. The Count of Monte Cristo |
| Starring: James Caviezel, Guy Pearce, Richard Harris, James Frain, Dagmara Dominczyk Directed By: Kevin Reynolds September 10, 2002
Why is it that so many filmmakers believe that they can improve upon classic novels by changing them? Such conceit rarely results in a movie that is a credit to the novel upon which it is based, few surpass the original, and this is certainly no exception. Jim Caviezel is certainly eye candy in this movie, and if you are interested in that, or in seeing a VERY YOUNG Henry Cavill (of the Tudors), then... more

i always forget that this isn't just a few great old songs and awesome costumes. there's a great message between the lines about the relationship between these three characters. the one our parents always tried to teach us about accepting and loving people for who they are, not what they look like, who they love or what god they worship. and there's awesome costumes, great old songs and lots of... more

So many reviews read like the stars or produces wrote them. They give them high marks, then write a two page glowing synopsis of the story. I feel to review a film what is needed is to try to clearly state what is good and what could be improved. That being said, I feel this was a great movie, with great acting with lots of "action" mental and some violent. It had a good story line, great... more

| | 8. The Time Machine |
| Starring: Guy Pearce, Jeremy Irons, Doug Jones, Phyllida Law, Lenny Loftin July 23, 2002
Having never read the book and only having seen the 1970's version of this story for comparison I really enjoyed this film. The set decorations were well done and the film, for the most part, seamlessly blended set locations with the GGI locations. The actors all did a fine job. I fail to understand why so many dislike this film.
The story, while familiar to many, was still suspenseful... more

... with a little help from cinematography, of course, is the barren Australian Outback, the real star of The Proposition. When the two older Burns Brothers sit on their mesa gazing at the sunset, stirred by its beauty, it's hard to fathom their viciousness. We know they're both killers, psychopaths, utter outcasts from a community that is already the fly-specked outer fringe of civilization. We know... more
