| | 3. Black Beauty |
| Starring: Sean Bean, David Thewlis, Jim Carter, Peter Davison, Alun Armstrong Directed By: Caroline Thompson November 30, 1999
Features:- Anna Sewell's timeless Victorian novel comes touchingly to life in this episodic big-screen adaptation. Lyrically recounted from the handsome stallion's perspective, the film traces his fortunes -- from his happy beginnings on a sprawling, verdant country manor to working-class London's sooty, teeming streets. As he passes from owner to owner during a two-decade span, the ever-faithful steed encou
Though perhaps occasionally too intense for the youngest or most tender-hearted kids, this British version of the classic children's book Black Beauty (Unabridged Classics) follows the original closely and is beautifully filmed, with a handsome equine lead and an affecting storyline, and a good mastery of the "look" of Victorian England. It was to help ameliorate the sufferings of city horses like... more

| | 5. Two for the Road |
| Starring: Audrey Hepburn, Albert Finney, Eleanor Bron, William Daniels, Gabrielle Middleton Directed By: Stanley Donen November 01, 2005
Interesting period cars. Interesting European scenery. Plot and pace drags a little but presence of fine actors salvages the situation. I did not care for the continual shifting of scenes from now to then and back. Not one of Audrey Hepburn's best. Of course, Albert Finney has always been a little difficult for me to like. But, he got to do a lot of love scenes with Audrey, and that ain't bad!... more

| | 6. Iris |
| Starring: Judi Dench, Jim Broadbent, Kate Winslet, Hugh Bonneville, Eleanor Bron Directed By: Richard Eyre August 20, 2002
It's terrifically well done with perfect casting. I only wish there had been even more of the brilliant Iris, before her decline into Alzheimer's. She was amazingly, spectacularly brilliant, as well as eccentric (shall we say) in love and one of the greatest English novelists. The movie follows her husband, John Bayley's memoirs of her, their deep love and his devotion during her illness. Very moving... more

| | 8. Terry Pratchett's Discworld Collection (Wyrd Sisters / Soul Music) |
| Starring: Christopher Lee, Jane Horrocks, June Whitfield, Annette Crosbie, Eleanor Bron Directed By: Jean Flynn August 26, 2008
As a long time fan of Terry Pratchett books, I was very please with these two animated versions of the books. Definately worth the buy. If you want an even better Terry Pratchett movie, try Terry Pratchett's Hogfather; it's done with live actors... more

| | 9. The House of Mirth |
| Starring: Eleanor Bron, Terry Kinney, Anthony LaPaglia, Laura Linney, Jodhi May Directed By: Terence Davies May 29, 2001
The film is represents the characters and concepts of the book fairly well. The protagonist, Lily, seems unable to make rational decisions, though she is reasonably intelligent. She's hampered by the conventions of her time as well as the shallow ideas inculcated by her mother. She's generally valued for her beauty and uses that as currency for entre into the level of society she's been taught to value.Unfortunately... more

| | 10. Bedazzled |
| Starring: Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Eleanor Bron, Raquel Welch, Alba Directed By: Stanley Donen April 03, 2007
For my money this original version is easily better than the later re-make. Not to say the re-make didn't have some fun moments but it was more of a version for children, loud and ADD paced with the sometimes funny Brendan Fraser doing his best Jim Carrey. Peter Cook and Dudley Moore are sublimely funny, not many belly laughs in this version but lots of humorous jibes at society and all of it's... more
