A great night at the opera We saw this film years ago in an art house in Manhattan. We took friends back to see it a second time. It is an hilarious and somehow inspiring movie about an avant garde production of Mozart's "Don Giovanni". Anyone who has ever been involved in an opera production will enjoy it. It helps if you know a little something about the basic story of the opera. Invite over a bunch of musician friends, pour a few drinks and have a great time with this film.
The Mozart Brothers If you want a serious film of the full Don Giovanni, this isn't it. What it IS is a funny and moving film about the very unusual way in which an opera director prepares his cast and orchestra for a production of this famous opera. The greatest thing for me was the manner in which it reminds you of what art really SHOULD be - a deeply emotional experience which somehow connects one with another person. The result is...well, you find out. Only thing wrong? By the end, I was desperate to see the full production the cast had been rehearsing, but which was only only shown in parts. Funny and touching. Watch it at night with a drink or two.
