5 out of 5 starsJoyful
Joyful.Worth the effort.Humourous,serious,warm,delightful.
The monk says "It is no good just saying loving kindess. You have to do it,you have to show it"
Wilding may work in a more subtle and upbeat way than other directors and presenters, as shown by threads weaving through this film, but her work is no less powerful for it.

5 out of 5 starsHeartwarming
This film is a treat.A heartwarming and humble glimpse into the smiles of missionary monks from Asia .These monks do not live in their own country and are building new lives in West. I have been to Thai Temples outside Thailand and to other Buddhist temples. This film captures the monks lives well and the complexities both we and the monks face with the profound language differences in the Western world. The narration, like the film itself, is fresh and orginal. I actually felt ,through the film the joy, humour and the facts of life for these Buddhist monks. Buddha Wild gave me added insight into Buddhism in a very pure way but it also gave me greater sensitivity and awareness of Asian culture .By the end of the film I was happy I had watched it and was quite touched. It was compelling and a few days later I still cannot get some of the images and quotes out of mind. That's a good thing.Take note, watching this film does make you hungry afterwards.

2 out of 5 starsGood - but not what most viewers will expect
This DVD is "cute" and interesting and definitely gives some insights into the lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. However - please be aware that this DVD was NOT created in Thailand (as one would expect looking at the cover) - but it was filmed entirely in a Thai-Buddhist temple located somewhere in New Zealand - the author never explains just where she is, but one can tell from the many signs written in English.
For someone who has lived in Thailand extensively and is very familiar with the culture and the religion practised there by over 98% of the population, it was disappointing to see this "report" done NOT inside Thailand. There is truly a huge difference in what is presented on this DVD and what one would experience being inside this wonderful country (Thailand). This DVD can be a "guide" for a first-time exposure for people new to Buddhism - or who want to know more and it answers quite a few elementary questions.

5 out of 5 starsA Great Adventure into the Buddhist Everday Life
Wilding created an epic of film on no budget. Gets to the heart of the Buddhist everday life. The narration was serious, yet fun and keeps you intrigued throughout the film. It was in perfect balance with the Monks documented. Beautiful use of cinematography in some parts of the film. It was very enjoyable even for someone not terribly excited about religous matters.

5 out of 5 starsA charming view of Theravada Buddhism
I wrote the "Editorial Review" above, and I just want to reiterate how wonderful this little movie is! It's nice to know this kind of warm-hearted documentary can still get made and distributed in today's seemingly unkind world.

And just to add a clarification about my official review above: For some reason it says Tricycle Magazine up there after my name, but other than being a subscriber, I don't have any affiliation with the magazine.
