| 1. Spirited Away |
| Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki April 15, 2003
The two movies I ordered were from the Japan region and you can't view them in the United States. The seller needed to mention this and did not. I need to exchange the movies for the US version. ... more

| | 2. Princess Mononoke |
| Starring: Yôji Matsuda, Yuriko Ishida, Yûko Tanaka, Kaoru Kobayashi, Masahiko Nishimura Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki December 19, 2000
Miyazaki is man best describe in one word: "Fanastic"! His animation work is by far the best when it comes to movies and animation series. The choice of overall story-line, main characters, support characters, and individual story-line for each character is done so perfectly that there no mistake what going to happen, and it getting you thinking from beginning of movie or episode what going to... more

| Starring: Sumi Shimamoto, Mahito Tsujimura, Hisako Kyôda, Gorô Naya, Ichirô Nagai Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki February 22, 2005
Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli have brought man timeless classics to animated film. His stories always reach the hearts of viewers and the imagination, musical score and characters are some of the best in animation. Miyazaki uses very human-like movements in his animation. In addition, much of the art is done using water colors. These stories offer heart felt compassion, strong moral values and a... more

| | 4. Castle in the Sky: Special Edition - 2 Disc DVD |
| Starring: Mayumi Tanaka, James Van Der Beek, Anna Paquin, Keiko Yokozawa, Kotoe Hatsui Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki March 02, 2010
After some investigating (and an erroneous online review) I was stupidly given to believe that this re-release had been properly English subtitled with corrected Japanese translations (for those interested in watching the film in it's original language) but alas, after forking over the additional funds for this, my third version of this film on DVD (having previously purchased a rather nice "Studio... more

| | 5. Kiki's Delivery Service: Special Edition - 2-Disc DVD |
| Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Minami Takayama, Rei Sakuma, Kappei Yamaguchi, Keiko Toda Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki March 02, 2010
This 2010 special edition radically changes the music and edits lines. It is probably more elegant and honors the original better, and it is nice to hear Hisashi's other compositions and the ambient noises. But it feels all wrong.
Since our family has always found this to be a perfect movie as is, and bought a replacement for the better sound when the other died from too much love... more

| Starring: Hitoshi Takagi, Noriko Hidaka, Chika Sakamoto, Shigesato Itoi, Sumi Shimamoto Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki March 02, 2010
One of the best films for children, ever. Forget Disney...this is it. Buy My Neighbor Totero, buy more than one copy...give to new families and neighborhood kids. It's a colorful array of delightful whimsy, love for nature and for family.
It's fun, it's beautiful animation, and it's all heart. This film embodies human love, wonder and joy!... more

| | 7. Ponyo (Two-Disc Edition) |
| Starring: Noah Lindsey Cyrus, Frankie Jonas, Cate Blanchett, Liam Neeson, Tina Fey Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki March 02, 2010
It is still Miyazaki, but simplified, too simplified for my taste. I found it lacking his usual complexity, layers of meaning and depth. It is definitely worth watching though: beautiful story, beautiful animation, but it did not have the profound effect on me his other movies had... more

| | 8. The Cat Returns |
| Starring: Chizuru Ikewaki, Yoshihiko Hakamada, Aki Maeda, Takayuki Yamada, Hitomi Satô Directed By: Hiroyuki Morita February 22, 2005
I'm not going to go into extreme detail - if you like Miyazaki's other work, you'll recognize a lot of his stylistic influences present here. However, The Cat Returns is also missing a lot of the wit that makes Miyazaki's other films succeed, and simply put, it cannot measure up to his true masterpieces like Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service. In the end, the entire plot feels like an elongated... more

| | 9. Porco Rosso |
| Starring: Shûichirô Moriyama, Tokiko Katô, Sanshi Katsura, Greg Ellis, Tsunehiko Kamijô Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki February 22, 2005
I've always been a Miyazaki fan with Kiki's Delivery Service and such. However, Porco Rosso is not recommended for young children as there are multiple "moron", "idiot" and other choice words throughout the film. When seen as an adult anime, the plot is sadly lacking and at the end, I really didn't care whether Porco lived or died. Go see something else instead. ... more

| | 10. Grave of the Fireflies |
| Starring: Tsutomu Tatsumi, Ayano Shiraishi, Akemi Yamaguchi, Yoshiko Shinohara, Rhoda Chrosite Directed By: Isao Takahata July 07, 2009
"Grave of the Fireflies" is a film that anyone can get into; you don't have to be a die-hard anime fan to appreciate this movie. While the animation in this film is breath-taking, it is the story line that will tear you up inside. I'll admit, I tend to cry when watching movies that are sad. This one definitely made me cry my eyes out, because while other movies may end with some sort of hope at... more
