This 2010 special edition radically changes the music and edits lines. It is probably more elegant and honors the original better, and it is nice to hear Hisashi's other compositions and the ambient noises. But it feels all wrong.

One of the best films for children, ever. Forget Disney...this is it. Buy My Neighbor Totero, buy more than one copy...give to new families and neighborhood kids. It's a colorful array of delightful whimsy, love for nature and for family.

It is still Miyazaki, but simplified, too simplified for my taste. I found it lacking his usual complexity, layers of meaning and depth. It is definitely worth watching though: beautiful story, beautiful animation, but it did not have the profound effect on me his other movies had... more

I'm not going to go into extreme detail - if you like Miyazaki's other work, you'll recognize a lot of his stylistic influences present here. I've always been a Miyazaki fan with Kiki's Delivery Service and such. However, Porco Rosso is not recommended for young children as there are multiple "moron", "idiot" and other choice words throughout the film. When seen as an adult anime, the plot is sadly lacking and at the end, I really didn't care whether Porco lived or died. Go see something else instead. ... more
