| 1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns |
|
By: Frank Miller Publisher: DC Comics May 01, 1997
Here's the book in a nutshell: Bruce Wayne, AKA Batman, is on the edge of sanity ...sleepwalking and drinking himself into oblivion because he's been in mind-numbing retirement for the last 10 years. But, Gotham gets SOOO bad that he's given his excuse to don the tights again. Bloody heads and mayhem follows.
Now, be warned this Batman is aged. So much so that throughout the book he huffs,puffs... more

| 2. Batman: Year One |
|
By: Frank Miller Publisher: DC Comics January 10, 2007
What a great graphic novel! The tale of Batman begins here, and Frank Miller does an excellent job! This paces like a movie, and I had it finished in a half hour, which left me sad, but I'd rather that than it drag on! Do yourself a favor - if you're a Batman fan, pick this up! ... more

| 3. Batman: The Killing Joke |
|
By: Alan Moore, Brian Bolland By: Brian Bolland Publisher: DC Comics March 19, 2008
Alan Moore is the greatest comic book writer of all time. His portrayal of the Joker is dark, violent, and irrational. Bolland's illustrations bring the book to life and tell a narrative of their own. Read it once and you'll want more. read it again and you'll catch all the little things you missed the first time through. But you'll still want more... more

| 4. Batman: Arkham Asylum (15th Anniversary Edition) |
|
By: Grant Morrison Publisher: DC Comics November 01, 2005
While the story holds in this book, the artwork made it hard to follow as well as to understand. It all makes sense when you read the script notes in the back of the book, but while actually reading with the art it becomes confusing and annoying. While the artwork is at times interesting, it does not match the story in the traditional sense. Random characters are thrown into panels where you can't... more

| 5. Batman: The Long Halloween |
|
By: Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale Publisher: DC Comics November 01, 1999
I was blown away on how good this story was. I am a big Marvel fan, but have been thinking about breaking out into mainstream DC books. I was not disappointed with this read. It combines Batman's dark precence and a great murder mystery to make a great story. The art also contributes to this as well. This is a great start for anyone who wants to read more Batman, and I am sure I will buy more Batman... more

| 6. Batman: Dark Victory |
|
By: Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale Publisher: DC Comics October 01, 2002
It's an outstanding masterpiece that every dark knight friend has to read it. It defines the hero and shows the beginning of a wonderful relationship with Dick Grayson, the first Robin. One of his worst enemies emerges, that is Two-Face of course, while his friendship with Commissioner Gordon is tested. It's a must for every fan, for it's a pure pleasure. So, what are you waiting for? I'll definitely... more

| 7. Batman: Haunted Knight |
|
By: Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale Publisher: DC Comics September 01, 1996
"Haunted Knight" collects three different Batman tales by Loeb and Sale all of which focus on Halloween. It's an interesting idea. The art is a bit exaggerated as was the style in the mid 90s when these issues were first released. The insight into the character of both Batman and Bruce Wayne is excellent. So are the takes on Alfred, the Mad Hatter and the Scarecrow. Two of the stories are excellent... more

By: Ed Brubaker Publisher: DC Comics February 03, 2009
This is a well told story with good artwork. It's not quite as good as Batman: Year One, but I don't think anything is (personally, I prefer Year One to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns). This is a good sequel, and an enjoyable sequel to Y1. Do you need to own it? It's probably worth it... I am glad I bought it. ... more

By: Brian Azzarello Publisher: DC Comics November 04, 2008
this book was really great... it was disturbing at some parts but it was interesting... my only problem with the book was it was short =/ but that shouldnt stop you from picking this up. I really recommend it to mature readers only. Very adult themed... but it was good and the end was good... artwork is also great. thank you =)... more

| 10. Ronin |
|
By: Frank Miller Publisher: DC Comics March 01, 1995
Before reading Ronin, I had very little knowledge of and quite mixed feelings about its author and illustrator Frank Miller. I had read his much lauded Dark Knight Returns and, although I enjoyed it, I didn't quite get what all the fuss was about. I realize that it was with this book that Batman became a grim anti-authoritarian hero and that the dark, violent tone of the book was unusual when it... more
