| 1. Hellblazer: The Roots of Coincidence |
|
By: Andy Diggle Publisher: Vertigo May 19, 2009
With this story The Roots of Coincidence, Constantine ("rhymes with fine") comes face to face with the synchronicity highway he has been riding his entire life. Why for instance does he always end up at the wrong place at the right time? And how has he been cloaked against the deadly Mako without his knowledge? Who exactly is pulling Constantine's strings? All of these questions are answered in... more

| 2. Hellblazer: Joyride |
|
By: Andy Diggle Publisher: Vertigo February 20, 2008
Having been downright depressed with some of the post-Ennis writing for Hellblazer, I was pleasantly surprised with Joyride. If you enjoyed some of the earlier Hellblazer where demons and dark magic were used allegorically to comment on social issues, Diggle's sharp but fair dig at both the British class divide and the demonization of youth shouldn't fail to resonate... more

By: Peter Milligan Publisher: Vertigo November 10, 2009
I have read quite a few peter millagan graphic novels such as enigma and skin and the extremist with ted mckeever and all were good to great for their genera and then it seemed like peter sort have disappeared only to pop up again at marvel on his historic and outragous run on x-force and it seemed at that point peter millagan had stepped his game up in my eyes from there he did the programe on... more

| 5. Hellblazer: The Fear Machine (Hellblazer (Graphic Novels)) |
|
By: Jamie Delano Publisher: Vertigo July 15, 2008
I can't believe this item is rated so poorly. I've read nearly everything on the Hellblazer line and this rates near the top. Everything that the other reviewers criticize I thought, by contrast, was a strength. I didn't find the portrayal of Constantine as a hippie to be unrealistic. We see Constantine at a very youthful stage in his life, and he begins to become a man in this volume. The far-out... more

| 6. John Constantine, Hellblazer: The Gift |
|
By: Mike Carey Publisher: Vertigo September 19, 2007
If you want a seminal, mind blowing but stand-alone Hellblazer story, Mike Carey's "All His Engines" is the place to start. This series is 3 or 4 trades long and comprises one of the best comic book stories I've ever read. This is the last chapter, which ends Mike Carey's run, and it left me simultaneously depressed that there would be no more and amazed that anyone would try and pick up where this... more

| 7. John Constantine, Hellblazer: Empathy is the Enemy |
|
By: Denise Mina Publisher: Vertigo November 15, 2006
Like all writers on the Hellblazer franchise, Denise Mina brings her own, unique vision of John Constantine to the series. Gone is the classic, sharp-dressed mystic of Jamie Delano's run and in his place a more world-weary, sardonic character who could easily have been drawn from Mina's crime world of "Garnethill". Long term fans may not like this interpretation of the character, but it's one that... more

Mike Carey, John Constantine, Hellblazer: Stations of the Cross (Vertigo, 2004)
John Constantine is back, and in Carey's story arc, he's been better than ever. Stations of the Cross continues on where Staring at the Wall left off, with John back from his otherplanar trip and not remembering much of anything that happened to him in the previous book (and spotty recollection of what happened... more

| 10. John Constantine, Hellblazer: Reasons to Be Cheerful |
|
By: Mike Carey Publisher: Vertigo April 07, 2007
I don't write reviews terribly often, but felt almost obligated to, here. The two and a half stars this title has at present would lead one to think that Mike Carey somehow slipped in his otherwise superb run of Hellblazer. He didn't. This book was as good as the rest, or close to it. And while I'm aware this is blasphemy in some circles, I find I much prefer Carey's work to Garth Ennis. The plot has... more
