While a gross-out scene may be the most memorable part of this film, it does paint a pretty realistic portrait of highly disorganized young heroin addicts. I've known a lot of heroin addicts in the course of my career (none in Scotland, however) and only a few of them were as far gone in their addiction as the young characters of this movie. This is a pale Hollywood re-make of the original Danish movie by the same director. That version was released by Anchor Bay but is now sadly out of print. The Anchor Bay version is still available new and used by private sellers on Amazon. Anyone who has seen the original movie would just laugh at this watered-down rehash.

If you are a Coen's Bros. fan than this is a must see for any fan. This is their first movie and was the shot by the same Dir. of Phot. as their 1st 3 movies. Well ho hum. I love this movie, it's flawless. Unfortunately haven't been able to view it as it's the wrong format for my country. Yes they warn you in the ad this may happen, but have bought DVDs this way before and it's always been fine. So all up, a frustrating and disappointing experience. It's sitting there, on my shelf, Malcom Macdowell in all his youthful hunkiness... but I'll have to buy... more
