| 1. Trainspotting - Director's Cut (Collector's Edition) |
| Starring: Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, Robert Carlyle Directed By: Danny Boyle June 01, 2004
While a gross-out scene may be the most memorable part of this film, it does paint a pretty realistic portrait of highly disorganized young heroin addicts. I've known a lot of heroin addicts in the course of my career (none in Scotland, however) and only a few of them were as far gone in their addiction as the young characters of this movie. While most make some very bad choices on a regular basis... more

| | 2. Nightwatch |
| Starring: Ewan McGregor, Nick Nolte, Patricia Arquette, Josh Brolin, Lauren Graham Directed By: Ole Bornedal November 14, 2000
This is a pale Hollywood re-make of the original Danish movie by the same director. That version was released by Anchor Bay but is now sadly out of print. The Anchor Bay version is still available new and used by private sellers on Amazon. Anyone who has seen the original movie would just laugh at this watered-down rehash.
The Danish movie starts off as a what-the-hell-student-needs... more

| | 3. A Life Less Ordinary |
| Starring: Cameron Diaz, Ewan McGregor, Holly Hunter, Delroy Lindo, Dan Hedaya Directed By: Danny Boyle August 03, 1999
Danny Boyle directs this anything but ordinary love story with tremendous visual energy and a well chosen soundtrack that alternates between Beck, Radiohead, Oasis, and Bobby Darin. Robert (Ewan McGregor) is a lowly janitor who dreams of writing a trashy novel about the illegitimate child of JFK and Marilyn Monroe. His life's ambition comes in the way of his job and his girlfriend and he loses them... more

| Starring: Cameron Diaz, Ron Eldard, Annabeth Gish, Jonathan Penner, Courtney B. Vance January 07, 2003
The Last Supper (1995) is a Cognac's Police Festival prizewinner with a story that is realistic, portraying the politicized minds of some college and graduate-school aged individuals - not paying taxes, and not having to answer to a boss - their only concern being of a single feeling, thought and opinion, collectively in agreement about various news of the day. ... more

| Starring: John Getz, Frances McDormand, Dan Hedaya, M. Emmet Walsh, Samm-Art Williams Directed By: Ethan Coen, Joel Coen September 16, 2008
If you are a Coen's Bros. fan than this is a must see for any fan. This is their first movie and was the shot by the same Dir. of Phot. as their 1st 3 movies. The story is one of their most original and a must have for Crime Thriller fans (and DVD Collectors). * Interesting fact * They made the trailer for this movie without the finanancial backing and sold it to a production company without the rest... more

| | 8. If... (Criterion Collection) |
| Starring: Malcolm McDowell, David Wood, Richard Warwick, Christine Noonan, Rupert Webster Directed By: Lindsay Anderson June 19, 2007
Well ho hum. I love this movie, it's flawless. Unfortunately haven't been able to view it as it's the wrong format for my country. Yes they warn you in the ad this may happen, but have bought DVDs this way before and it's always been fine. So all up, a frustrating and disappointing experience. It's sitting there, on my shelf, Malcom Macdowell in all his youthful hunkiness... but I'll have to buy... more

| Starring: Ewan McGregor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Christian Bale, Toni Collette, Eddie Izzard Directed By: Todd Haynes May 18, 1999
"Velvet Goldmine" is director Todd Haynes' breakout hit. It's a combination of glam rock, punk rock, and RPS (Real Person Slash fiction) Jonathan Rhys-Meyers stars as the charismatic,chameleon-like Brian Slade, clearly modeled on David Bowie. Ewan Macgregor stars as Curt Wilde, clearly based on Iggy Pop, the Godfather of Punk himself. Christian Bale stars as a young man in the process of "coming out."... more

| | 10. Ratcatcher - Criterion Collection |
| Starring: William Eadie, Tommy Flanagan, Mandy Matthews, Michelle Stewart, Lynne Ramsay Jr. September 10, 2002
"Ratcatcher," the Scottish director Lynn Ramsey's 1999 debut film, comes trailing black clouds behind, described as a grim and disturbing coming of age picture. There's truth to that. It's set in a Glasgow slum, a down-at-heels project, or council estate as they'd call it, that's way too close to a fetid, apparently no-longer-used canal: one of the children central to the plot calls it "creepy," and... more
