| 1. Wolverine: Evolution |
|
By: Jeph Loeb Publisher: Marvel Comics March 19, 2008
Loeb has done some great ret-cons in the past. All of his work on Batman lately gave him carte blanche in my book to write whatever he wants on whatever book he wants. So what do we get when he steps up to ret-con the man of a million pasts? He ret-cons it to coincide with Len Wein's High-Evolutionary origin for Wolverine. These Wolverine/Sabertooth mutants have been battling for centuries and in the... more

| 2. Wolverine: Get Mystique |
|
By: Jason Aaron Publisher: Marvel Comics August 27, 2008
What a great book! I am not usually an X-Men reader, although I like them, my reasons are economical rather than an issue of taste. This was a really good book though that made me reconsider. Wolverine is his usually gruff self but I enjoyed the fill in of the background between he and Mystique. I also like that she chose to hid in Afghanistan and Iraq but that Aaron didn't use the story as... more

| 3. Wolverine: Blood & Sorrow (Astonishing X-Men) |
|
By: Stuart Moore, Rob Williams, David Lapham, C.P. Smith, Laurence Campbell, David Aja Publisher: Marvel Comics July 25, 2007
First off, X-men Unlimited #12, shouldn't even count as an issue. It's literally 6 back-to-back pages long, the art sucks, and nothing happens. So, you're really paying for two normal issues and a double size issue. Giant-Size Wolverine #1 may be enjoyed by a select few, but I didn't enjoy it that much. The art wasn't very good, and the plot was like that of a bad horror movie. Wolverine #41 has... more

| 4. Wolverine: Origins & Endings |
|
By: Daniel Way, Javier Saltares, Mark Texeira Publisher: Marvel Comics January 10, 2007
Pretty boring and not worth the $12. The art wasn't bad, but it felt like the book was lacking substance. See if you can read this at your public library. If you're really into the whole pre-wolverine/weapon-x era, get the $14 hardcover comic by Windsor-Smith. The art is raw and the story is dark. ... more

| 6. Wolverine: Origins, Vol. 2: Savior (v. 2) |
|
By: Daniel Way, Steve Dillon Publisher: Marvel Comics September 26, 2007
The dialog to this comic is okay but what really killed it is the art! Why does Dillon keep getting work!? It looks like basic work. No distingushing features, no details, no intricate backgrounds. Everybody Looks the same! It looks like Dillon picked up a 'How to Draw' book a week before he began to draw. I like Wolverine and all the comics he's in but Dillon just put me off to the whole... more

| 7. X-Men: Original Sin |
|
By: Mike Carey, Daniel Way Publisher: Marvel Comics September 02, 2009
...and the sum of the parts is actually better than the individual books. By their very nature, "Wolverine: Origins" and "X-Men: Legacy" are doomed to cover (or un-cover?) old ground.
This isn't to disparage the creative teams on either title--Mike Carey, especially, is one hell of a writer. It's just that there's very little forward progress. Every step forward takes us 10 steps into... more

| 9. Civil War: Wolverine |
|
By: Marc Guggenheim Publisher: Marvel Comics May 30, 2007
I crossed my fingers but it didn't matter. The Humbert Ramos art was what I expected and I expected to hate it. There are two kinds of comic art lovers, those who like Ramos and those who hate his style. I guess I fall into the latter category. It was so distracting from a novel idea and pretty decent story. Too bad... more
