|
By: Neil Gaiman Publisher: HarperCollins June 26, 2007
I have been a fan of Neil Gaiman for quite a while, and this book certainly meets the standards I would expect from him. The storytelling is clear and compelling, and the world itself is interesting. It certainly takes the "Me vs. the world" story to a new level!
The only problem I had with the book is that it feels incomplete; the ending itself is fine, and the length of the novel... more

By: Neil Gaiman, Andy Kubert Publisher: Marvel Comics October 07, 2009
In one of Neil Gaiman's more unique entries in the Marvel Universe, we find Marvel's superheroes in 17th century Europe, just before the death of Queen Elizabeth I. As the god-fearing James I seizes power, the heroes escape to America on a mission to save pretty much everything there is. It's Marvel like you've never seen it before, as Gaiman and artist Andy Kubert reinvent Dr. Strange, Nick Fury... more

| 3. M Is for Magic |
|
By: Neil Gaiman Publisher: HarperCollins April 29, 2008
I have read Coraline and The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and so became interested in his shorter fiction. I find Mr. Gaiman's writing a delight with unconventional stories cleverly conceived and nicely written. His writing can appeal equally to children and adults. M is for Magic is a perfect example of his fertile creativity.
The stories have some bizarre plots:

By: Neil Gaiman, Michael Zulli Publisher: Dark Horse October 10, 2007
Well, I don't know why, but Neil Gaiman always surprises me. I know he is a genius, and I love his work, and everytime I read something of his I am surprised by his witicism and inteligence. All I can say is that this book was no exception! I really loved it, an amazingly well told story of a woman who gets her wishes fulfilled in a most peculiar way. Really escellent and I highly recommend it... more

By: Neil Gaiman, Dave McKean Publisher: Dark Horse December 12, 2007
Now days its hard to find something subtle. Something that doesn't beat you over the head with the point, but gently guides you there.
Gaiman has always had a knack for subtlety. Dave McKean pairs well with Gaiman and they work their magic in this piece.
This is more in vein with The Tragical Comedy, Comical Tragedy of Mr Punch and other more adult works the Gaiman has worked... more

| 7. Mr. Punch |
|
By: Neil Gaiman Publisher: Vertigo September 01, 1995
I've read and praised Gaiman's works before. I've read his novels, graphic novels, and anthologies, and always enjoyed them. Mr. Punch, however, was a big disappointment.
The artwork varies widely. While many of the characters are drawn in normal cartoon fashion, the narrator (a little boy) is drawn to resemble a fox around the nose, and the puppets are shown as bad photographs. The... more

| 8. Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? (Deluxe Edition) |
|
By: Neil Gaiman Publisher: DC Comics July 21, 2009
The original comic within this volume, 'Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader,' is one of the most interesting takes on the Batman cycle that I've ever seen. I won't speak specifically, but I should emphasize the presence of death and its outcome. Furthermore, this deluxe edition contains a few other comics, including an origin of Poison Ivy and The Riddler; these are interesting, but no where near... more

Given it's all hits and no misses, considering it's Gaiman/McKean team's first work, it's a masterstroke. I can't believe it's their first collaboration!

| 10. Black Orchid |
|
By: Neil Gaiman Publisher: Vertigo September 01, 1991
One of the few Gaiman/McKean works that I haven't read; I was eager to read this graphic novel. It was a pretty good read. It is an unusual comic book and deals with some more serious issues than the basic good vs. evil.
This comic takes place in Gotham City and in the first few scenes we get to watch as the super-hero Black Orchid is captured and killed. The rest of the story follows... more
