Literally and figuratively. Purchase this special edition for the remastered first disk, but also for the amazing second, unreleased tracks. This album holds up incredibly well after ten years, something that cannot be said for too many CDs of the early 2000s. Very pleased with this purchase... more

By: Santana March 31, 1998
I was a teenager when Santana first hit the airwaves and the band I was in was learning to play Black Magic Woman from the Abraxas album only a week after hearing it.Later Santana albums didn't seem to get better, though the music industry was headed towards much harder & more diversified rock at the time.My music teachers classified Santana as "a form of Latin progressive jazz/rock" which kinda... more

A fan of Santana, you should get this CD. Ok, it doesn't have some old gems and is heavier on new stuff but it has Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, Evil Ways. The you throw in Michelle Branch, Chad Kroeger, Rob Thomas, Tina Turner Steven Tyler and so many others you have one excellent CD. Ultimate, well, maybe not but forget the name, a great CD. RECOMMENDED. ... more

I bought the vinyl LP Abraxas in 1970 and nearly played the grooves flat. The LP has long been gone and I have an old CD but I want the remastered version. It brings back my memories as a nighttime hippie and a daytime computer programmer. Great Memories and wonderful music.
If you aren't familiar with this album, buy it! It is timeless... more

SUPERNATURAL is a testament to the stylistic breadth of Carlos' musical world, to his dynamic communicative abilities, and to the fact that rolling stones truly gather no moss. The man makes a guitar wail like no other. SUPERNATURAL offers a winning context of musical fusion that highlights Santana's unique ability to make that guitar of his cry expressively. Whether he's spraying lyrical notes over... more

Waiting - waiting to take off, goes nowhere. Evil Woman - a classic, what Santana is known for. Shades of Time - not a bad song, but not a favorite. Savor - too much cowbells and organs, sounds like Deep Purple. Were they using the same organs/keyboards? Jingo - a classic. Persuasion - a classic, one of my top 5 Santana favorite songs. Treat - a nice... more

I have Santana's first three albums and was apprehensive about buying this CD, from what I heard, this is where Santana went soft and jazzy. I started to play the first track, heard crickets chirping, and thought, sure enough, this is going to be elevator and camel walking music. No.
Sure it's a smite lighter than his first three releases, but with the same great guitar, check, same Latin... more

There are now two expanded editions of "Santana" (sometimes referred to as "Santana 1"). This is the version fans of the "Woodstock Era" band should buy. The other vesion is "The Woodstock Experience," released a couple of weeks ago at the time of this review.
This version has superior remixing/remastering of the first album, outtakes from the first album, the "almost complete" Woodstock... more
