If you're a die hard Yanni fan..... ^ If you're a die-hard Yanni fan, most likely, you will not like this. People don't like change. All of the bad reviews are because of these fans. I, myself, never listened to Yanni (yawwwn-y) before picking up this CD. Wasn't quite sure who he was. Having said that, I now understand why people loved him before with just instrumentals. Beautiful, indeed. Words of advice. EMBRACE something new. These singers, well, Nathan Pacheco, actually make Yanni better, in my opinion- adds life to the songs. His voice is unreal. The other singers are definitely forgettable, but the CD in general is really well-done. Variety is the spice of life and the different languages make things interesting. I was impressed and want more of Pacheco!!
Yanni Changes ^ Okay, I got hooked on Yanni back in the 80s when a friend let me borrow her Out of Silence cassette tape. Having been a listener of country music (and Kiss, the only rock band I liked) from 1975 to 1983, then pop from 1983 to 1987 after discovering Duran Duran, finding out about Yanni and John Tesh in 1987 was glorious change to my ears. What I liked most about Yanni was the lack of vocals. I enjoyed hearing just the music, not the vocals. All the attempts to put some kind of accentuated emotion into vocals nauseated me so that it was painful to listen to.
I remember reading a question in a magazine interview. Asked of Yanni, would he ever consider putting out songs with vocals. I think at the time it was something he had considered, but had not done. And I thanked him for that, in my own thinking. He had mentioned something about reworking the Optimystique material, but then decided it was an important milestone from his past and wished to leave it as it was. Well, nowadays, Yanni seems to prefer going with the vocals. I'm not a big fan of his nowadays /because/ of the vocals. I would have rather heard Optimystique done all over again with today's electronic music technology. But that's not what he wanted to do, obviously. Now he seems to take songs that used to be instrumental, and he adds vocals. I'm not /mad/ about his decision. I just don't buy the stuff anymore.
That said, there are a couple of works on here I like. I'd probably buy the MP3 versions of those songs.
Awesome! ^ I bought this a couple of months ago and the songs are still someof the most played in my iPod. The music is magnificent- I would also highly recommend Yanni VOCES Yanni Voces (CD/DVD)
I love the Spa,nish version.....it's better ^ Sorry Yanni. I just loved the Spanish version of your album better. The english one is not as romantic and the variety of voices is only 4. I just could not get into to it as much. your Spanish "voces" is fantastic.
Yanni does it again ^ Outstanding CD and a great move for Yanni to add vocals to his wonderful music
