Description: Seven years of peace have passed since the defeat of the monstrous Cell, and the Z-Fighters have enjoyed a return to normal life. Two fresh new Saiyan faces have also appeared on the scene—Goku’s son Goten, and Vegeta’s son Trunks!
Now, the time has come for the Z-Fighters to reunite, as the new World Martial Arts Tournament is set to begin. The greatest warriors on Earth have come together for their chance to capture the title of the reigning champion, Mr. Satan—but behind the scenes, sinister forces are at work. An evil eye watches the competitors’ every move, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. The action grows fierce on the tournament floor, but for the Z-Fighters, the real fight is only just beginning!

Amazon.com: Seven years have passed since the tournament in which Gohan defeated Cell. Goku remains in the Next World, rather than risk attracting more evil beings to Earth, but he cheerfully trains under the watchful eye of King Kai (and the other Kais). After years of studying under his mother's tutelage, Gohan enters high school. Although he's awkward around his fellow students, he uses his incredible powers to fight crime in the nearby city as "Great Saiyaman." His feats of daring-do bring him into conflict with martial arts champion, crime fighter, and classmate Videl, the daughter of the obnoxious Mr. Satan. Their rivalry quickly turns into a maladroit mutual attraction. When a new tournament is announced, Gohan begins training himself and his seven-year-old brother Goten. Most of the season is devoted to the preparations for the tournament and its first rounds: Goku returns to Earth for one day to participate; Vegeta, Piccolo, Krillin, Android 18, Gohan, Videl, Goten, and Trunks all enter, with Mr. Satan ranked as the defending champion. Most of the story is silly, even by the undemanding standards of Dragon Ball Z, and fans generally regard this season as an interlude between the "Cell" and "Majin Buu" sagas. The latter begins in the final episodes, as two over-muscled thugs in the service of the evil wizard Babidi steal energy from Gohan's Super-Saiyan form. They hope to release the horrible monster Buu, the creation of Babidi's father Bibidi. Ranked against them are the Z Fighters, the Supreme Kai and his attendant Kibit. Great series, another average DVD set, not the best episodes Dragon Ball Z is the one greatest anime series ever created. With its action-packed universe and compelling storylines, Akira Toriyama's magnum opus has never failed to please. This is the latest season set FUNimation has released of the series.
This set picks up where the last one left off. Cell is dead, but Goku died in the process. Everyone has gotten on with their lives. Goku enters a tournament in the afterlife, fighting against some interesting, often dangerous opponents. Seven years later, Gohan has grown into a teenager, and has taken up crimefighting in addition to his schoolwork. He now has a younger brother, as well. The World Martial Arts Tournament is coming up, and the powers that be in the afterlife have granted Goku permission to come back to Earth for 24 hours for the tournament. He's going to be needed - a new evil scheme is in the works.
The DVD set is divided amongst six discs, and contains the complete Afterlife Tournament, Saiyaman, and World Tournament Sagas. The picture has been subjected to digital noise reduction, and the set includes a booklet of character profiles and episode listings.
Obviously, if you're new to Dragon Ball Z, you'll want to start with the Season One box set, but if you're already a fan, you'll enjoy these episodes. Unfortunately, these are some of the weaker episodes of the series. The Afterlife Tournament is a filler, though it has its moments. The Saiyaman and World Tournment episodes tend to drag on, and not much happens. Of the nine season sets, these episodes are my least favorite. Still, they have their moments and it's essential to completists.
One of my personal favorite features of the set is the Marathon feature. FUNimation includes a feature in these sets that allows you to view all of the episodes on each disc from start to end with no interruptions from intros/outros/recaps/etc. This is an extremely handy feature I wish more TV shows on DVD had.
Like earlier Dragon Ball Z season sets, the picture has been cropped at the top and bottom (this was done due to excessive grain and damage to the original source), and it has been subjected to the digital noise reduction process. Obviously a lot of fans, myself included, were disappointed to see the picture get cropped. While the digital noise reduction doesn't do as thorough a job cleaning up the image as you'd hope, it IS the best these episodes have ever looked. In other words, it's a "give and take" scenario. You lose some of the picture you could see on earlier full-frame DVDs, but on the good side, you gain some picture on the sides, and the image quality is superior to all earlier DVD releases.
Sound quality is similar to the earlier sets. English audio quality is fantastic, but the dub is still translated poorly and the voice cast is hit and miss. On the other hand, the Japanese audio quality is poor, showing its age, but it does feature a well-translated subtitle track from Steven J. Simmons that lets you experience the series as originally intended.
Additionally, like the earlier sets, you have the option of watching the English voice cast played against the original Japanese audio.
Disappointingly, the next episode previews aren't included. But they weren't in any earlier season set, so it's no big surprise.
No special features are included here unless you count the trailers and the same textless opening/closing sequence all other sets like this have had. On the good side, the set does include a booklet similar to the earlier sets, with character profiles and an episode guide, making it handy to go right where you need to go on the DVDs.
It's another good Dragon Ball Z season set, enough said. Not my favorite episodes, but essential for completists all the same. If you're a fan of the series and don't already have these episodes, you can get them all here for one low price. Cropping issues aside, this is a great set, and a good value, especially compared to the older DVD releases.
Highly recommended to any fan of Dragon Ball Z.
Epic Hey everyone, if you like DBZ just as much as i do, then you'll love this DVD just as much as the other Seasons. In this particular season set of coures the season starts kinda boring with the Sayaman saga but comes to life as soon as Gohan starts training Videl.
Meh
This saga is okay, but nothing special. I liked it because it offered a change of pace from what normally goes on, but in the end, nothing really happens, which kind of annoyed me by the time I was on the last DVD.
You get to watch Gohan growing up and going to school for most of it, which I found funny and enjoyable....but when the World Saga tournament hits, it kind of goes downhill and ends up with basically "buy Season 8" because it tells you nothing of what's going on if you don't. Overall it's not terrible, but it lacks a villain to get into(it lacks action overall), and is easily the shortest length of all the DVD season sets by Funimation because of this.
Quirky fun, and most likely, you're going to need this set for your collection, otherwise this is one I'd say most people can skip if they are just into the epic battles and struggle for survival.
good set well this is mainly a filler season but still got some funny stuff. otherworld tournament is pretty cool. its kinda sloww but leads up to the finall saga.
if you got them all up to this point might as well get this one.
this is amust have.
great buy this was a fun season with plenty of action go buy it and experience it for yourself
