Def Leppard, Great Britain's premiere arena rock band, is back with a bang--kicking off 2008 with the release of their 14th studio album and a U.S. arena concert tour scheduled for this spring. Entitled Songs From The Sparkle Lounge (Bludgeon Riffola/Island/UMe), the album contains 11 new songs including the highly-anticipated single "Nine Lives" featuring a groundbreaking collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw. Songs From The Sparkle Lounge is Def Leppard's first album of brand new material since 2002's X and begins yet another remarkable new chapter in the band's 30-year recording career.
Recorded last year during month-long stints at lead singer Joe Elliott's Dublin studio, the album's title refers to a backstage area called "The Sparkle Lounge" on Def Leppard's 2006 tour where the band would go to write songs. Tracks from the album have been described by the group as written in the style of Hysteria, with the production of High 'n' Dry.
"The whole record's got a great '70s feel," said lead singer Joe Elliott. "By our standards, it's a very different album as we've been very adventurous, musically, on certain numbers. On the album there are classic Def Leppard songs and then there's also tracks that are very new-wave influenced while others sound like middle-to-late '70s AC/DC. There will definitely be some moments on it where anybody that's familiar with our music will go, 'Whoa! I wasn't expecting that!'"
The foundation for the album's collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw was layed at Def Leppard's 2006 Hollywood Bowl show where McGraw joined the band on stage for an encore performance of "Pour Some Sugar on Me." The artists stayed in touch following the performance, and when the band started writing the song "Nine Lives" they immediately thought of reaching out to McGraw to sing on it. Guitarist Phil Collen flew to Nashville to play it for McGraw who loved it and recorded the song in Nashville shortly after. Other standout tracks on the album include "Go," reminiscent of the band's classic track "Rocket" in its power and aggressive tribal beat; "Love," an emotive and moving epic song; and the anthemic "Tomorrow," a song written by guitarist Collen about the death of his father.

Maybe their best effort Loved this one the first time through. More hooks than a tackle box. Joe Elliot sounds as good as I've heard him. Also, you really never notice any shortcomings on the drums. Not Mike Portnoy, but really solid. A must have for any DL fan. Production is really good, although I've always found their backing vocals a little too doctored. Everything on this is good. Buy it!
A step up This one is much better than the last couple of Lep discs. It sounds like there is some genuine excitement in some of these songs. However, it does not reach the same level as Pyromania or Hysteria.
GOOD BUT NO WHERE NEAR CLASSIC BUT BETTER THEN THEIR LAST COUPLE OF ALBUMS GO!!! is a great way to start the album , very slang cross euphoria , which i though was there last great album , very rockin , great way to start an album . nine lives we all have heard , n is trully a chance of a hit , just these songs are way better then the last couple of albums .
CMON CMON is a cheap version of rocket , noo where near as good but similar to a few songs off euphoria , and is a kinda sionga long with no great purpose, its ok but no where near classic
LOVE is a good effort but really gets lost , gees at least they cld have tried to put a love bites or a long way to go which r both fantastic

HULLICINATE rocks !! at the start similer to photograph but once again not quite as good , but its decent

BAD ACTRESS def leppard do acdc , but its good nothing to serious , n move n grooves quite good , but not classic
COME UNDONE N GOTTA LET IT GO are the best songs on the album and r truully classic , cld have ended up on hysteria or eurphoria , maybe even pyro , surely the best there done in the lasdt 3 alboms , gott l;et it go , rocks even though itas a bit bon jove in the chorus
SPARKLE does sparkle at the start n end but theres a few duds in the middle , the PROB is great , , its very contempory , with lots of DEF moments , but DEF not pyro/hysteria , closer to euphoria , but a good effort but not classic

THERE YA GO ITS A GOOD SOLID ALBUM BUT NOT GREAT , NOT CLASSIC BUT DOES HAVE SOME VERY GOOD MOMENTS
Pure Rubbish!!! Def Leppard lost it after Steve Clark died and he can never be replaced. Now the Leps are so desperate to sell an album that they hired a famous COUNTRY singer how sad! Hang it up boy's you have "Burnt out" long ago and after this dreadful album you will soon "Fade Away."
