Amazon.com: For those who found 2004's Aliens vs. Predator too lightweight in the gore-and-guns department, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem offers a marked improvement in both categories, as well as a respectable amount of rumbles between the title extraterrestrials. Set in the 21st century (which predates the story to all of the Alien features), Requiem sends a crippled Predator ship crashing to Earth in a small Colorado town; unbeknownst to the locals, the craft is loaded with H.R. Giger's insectoid monsters, which make quick work of most of the population. As the human cast is slowly whittled to a few hardy (if unmemorable) souls, a Predator warrior also arrives to complicate matters and do battle with the Aliens, as well as a ferocious alien-Predator hybrid (dubbed a Predalien by the sci-fi and horror press). Visual-effects designers and music-video helmers The Strause Brothers (who make their feature directorial debut here) keep the action on frantic throughout, which is wise, since the dialogue and characters are threadbare at best; that should matter little to teenage male viewers, who are inarguably the film's key audience. Fans of the Alien franchise, however, may find the offhanded nod to the series' mythology given during the finale its sole saving grace. --Paul Gaita
Wish I could have seen the movie This movie was pathetically dark. In some scenes, you couldn't see anything but black movements on a black background; frustrating when the scene is supposed to be crucial to the plot. Even the few daylight scenes seem poorly lighted, as if in a dream state. Once the plot settles to night and the cities power goes out, good luck trying to figure out whats going on.
The plot was decent, but the fight scenes everyone buys the movie for were impossible to see :-\
CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT's HAPPENING!!!!!! It is hard to understand what is happening after it gets dark. Most of the movie it is dark. But what I could see every time was good enough I guess. LIGHTEN UP THE MOVIE!!!!!!
Coulnd't watch the whole movie, the image is TOO DARK! I don't know if the movie's good or bad, I could only watch it like 20 or 25 minutes because the image is TOO DARK. At some parts, I couldn't see what was going on in the movie. Is it the DVD transfer? Was it like this in the theatres?
I've written to amazon asking for a refund. I couldn't watch the whole movie! I had to turn off the TV because the screen was too painful to look at. Very disappointing.
Only for people with nightvision As I played the movie on my monitor I actually thought something was wrong with my monitor's settings. But after adjusting the brightness and contrast to all possible cominations and settings I realised it was not my monitor's fault. That was how AVP2 was made or made on the DVD. It could have been renamed AVP in Total Darkness. Extremely poor in lighting there is hardly any daylight or even light for the night and rainy scenes. Considering that the original Predator made two decades ago had numerous scenes in broad daylight AVP2 is an insult to the series. Both Alien and Predator creatures were creative masterpieces but AVP2 spoils both of them. In contrast AVP the first of the series was really made well. I wonder why with so much advancement in computer graphics technologies a movie so poorly as AVP2 was made. The story line is also very poor. Let's hope the next one in the series offers some promise. Two stars for the creative predators and the audio otherwise the movie deserves only one star.
Avoid at all costs, unless you have the visual acuity of a housecat Due to lack of decent lighting and use of stock slasher movie characters, this piece of cinematic filth serves as an insult to the AvP franchise. Sure, the blood, guts, and gore were great -- but the monsters themselves received very little screen time in comparison. Similar to my earlier review of the first AvP release, I feel this film would have done better with the likes of Ridley Scott or James Cameron sitting in the directors chair.
