Nostalgia for me, Superheros for my son (ok, for me, too) ^ This DVD set was a gift for my 4 year old son. He LOVES it. As do I, for that matter. I remember getting up early on Saturday mornings to watch this show, its predecessors and decendants.
I like that this show has between-scene extras. Magic tricks, environmental tips, games and lessons. This show has a light-hearted approach to hero vs villian that the newer Justice League cartoons do not have.
Don't get me wrong, the newer Justice League, and far too short-lived Justice League Unlimited, cartoons are fantastic, they are masterpieces in their own rights, but clearly targeting an older audience.
Fun stuff. I want more of it!
Great nastalga for me, but also great from my kids ^ I grew up watching Super Friends and loved it. I can remember spending hours pretending to be one of these super heroes.
But the best thing about this DVD set for me is that I can allow my 5 year old son to watch it without worrying that it is too violent or will have bad language. The episodes are clean, good wins over evil, and there is limited violence. I appreciate this, especially after dealing with much of what occurs on newer cartoons.
Back to childhood ^ I vaguely remember watching this as a child. I wanted something both of my children would enjoy watching, so I gave this a try. They have played this DVD to death! I like the social messages that it addresses and the positive attitude that the SuperFriends present in each ethical situation. My kids love it so much, I'm ordering the next volume!
Great for children! ^ I bought this DVD for my 2 little boys, ages 4 1/2 and 2 1/2. My 4 year old was really getting to the point where he was interested in super heros and action figures, Spiderman, etc., but I was hesitant to let him watch the shows on TV, because they seemed too violent for a boy his age. Remembering watching the Super Friends on Saturday morning cartoons when I was little, I searched for them and found this DVD. It has been a HUGE HIT!!! Both of my little boys LOVE watching the stories!! And they haven't complained once of being scared by anything. There are some monsters and strange creatures, but there isn't really any serious violence or blood, just enough intrigue and action to keep them enthralled. The episode are fairly short and they have moral messages at the end. I am really glad that I found this DVDE, as it seems to satisfy their need for action, and my need for something appropriate for their ages.
Quite honestly the best cartoon ever ^ Thanks to teletoon retro I discovered this fantastic cartoon. It has a wonderful team of super heros: Superman, Batman and Robin, Wonderwoman, Aquaman, and (my favorite) the wonder twins Zan and Jayna, with thier space monkey Gleek. Of all the superfriends, the best are definitly the wonder twins. Thier power is hilarious and awesome, which is putting thier rings together and turning into various things. Zan always turns into either something ice or water, and Jayna always turns into an animal. In this collection, they turn into some pretty wild and funny things. However, gleek often steals the spotlight from them with random acts which everyone laughs at, despite them being un humorous. My other favorite is Robin, who says anything and everything that he sees happen in front of him. I saw one episode (not in this collection unfortunately) where batman actually got mad at robin for doing that so much, and robin apologized and didn't speak the rest of the episode. some episodes have scenes showing either batman and robin in the bat mobile, wonderwoman in her invisible jet, aquaman swimming, super man flying etc. etc., where you see them for about 3 seconds, then the superfriends symbol spirals out and it moves on to the next scene. Its pretty funny. Despite the age of these corny cartoons, they are still extremely enjoyable, and very hilarious. Buy this collection, you won't be disappointed.
