5 out of 5 starsanother yummy Anita comic!
They've done it again. The story moves well, the art is amazing, but best of all.... it's Anita in comic form! Now if you listen to the reviewer above, you might think this is a rather lame part of the story. All books have slower parts to them and this may well be one for this series. But the plot moves forward with a revelation about Zachary. I am a huge fan of the artwork in all of them so far and this one leaves nothing to be desired. If your an Anita fan, run out and grab it! And if you aren't, pick up the compilation book and jump in! I'm not sure what grabs you first, the art or the story!

1 out of 5 starsGuilty pains
Nothing much happens in "Anita Blake Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasures #7," unless you count lessons from "Movie Voodoo for Dummies."

In fact, the seventh volume of this tepid comic book adaptation really has very little going on at all, except for a bit of exposition that will leave you scratching your head and wondering how an allegedly tough, smart character could be so stupid. Also included: wretched art, horrendous dialogue, and really bad bondage dresses.

After Anita snogs Phillip, he nips her on the neck. Angry, she storms out of the house -- and promptly bumps into a bunch of vampires, led by Theresa in her Evil Queen Galaxina dress. They're forcing Zachary to raise a zombie, but he can't do it, so Anita offers to share power with him. (And judging from her dreamy-eyed smile, she wants to share a lot more).

So she assists him in raising the zombie, only to belatedly realize that there's something very wrong with Zachary -- and he might just be the serial killer of vampires that she's looking for. To make matters worse, Nikolaos shows up just in time to make Anita's evening a little nastier...

The biggest event of "Guilty Pleasures #7" is the revelation of just what is up with Zachary, an otherwise forgettable character. And that revelation will probably leave readers smacking their heads in sheer amazement at how dense our brave and smug heroine is capable of being. Come on, she seriously didn't notice this little secret of his?

And aside from that, not much happens -- Anita banters with various vampires, and spends several pages helping Zachary raise a zombie. Hamilton tries to sex things up with Anita and Zachary smearing blood and herbs on each other, but it's dull rather than erotic. As is, I might add, the ghastly dialogue ("Can you kill the dead?" "I do it all the time" or "Damn you, mortal! Damn you to hell!").

This is apparently the last issue with Bret Booth's artwork, and it definitely isn't the best -- everyone looks bored and/or smug, hair is alive, Theresa is wearing a Sci-fi Dominatrix dress, and Anita's already inflated hips are now wider than a tombstone. She looks like she's smuggling rump roasts in her pantyhose.

Anita is still resolutely smug, brittle and inexplicably able to intimidate people, despite being short and rather weak. Hamilton pretty clearly considers her a hardcore tough-grrl, but little that she says or does -- including smirking, cowering and giving in to the bad guys -- really backs up this attitude.

The seventh part of "Anita Blake Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasures" is anything but a pleasure -- it's a tedious, climax-free confrontation with only one revelation of any interest. Dullsville.
