How does Spider-Man 3 follow on the heels of its predecessor, which was widely considered the best superhero movie ever? For starters, you pick up the loose threads from that movie, then add some key elements of the Spidey comic-book mythos (including fan-favorite villain Venom), the black costume, and the characters of Gwen Stacy and her police-captain father. In the beginning, things have never looked better for Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire): He's doing well in school; his alter ego, Spider-Man, is loved and respected around New York City. And his girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), has just taken a starring role in a Broadway musical. But nothing good can last for Spidey. Mary Jane's career quickly goes downhill; she's bothered by Peter's attractive new classmate, Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard); and the new Daily Bugle photographer, Eddie Brock (Topher Grace), is trying to steal his thunder. Enter a new villain, the Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), who can transform his body into various forms and shapes of sand and who may be connected to Peter's past in an unexpected way. There's also the son of an old villain, Harry Osborne (James Franco), who unmasked Spidey in the previous movie and still has revenge on his mind. And a new black costume seems to boost Spidey's powers, but transforms mild-mannered Peter into a mean and obnoxious boor (Maguire has some fun here).
If that sounds like a lot to pack into one 140-minute movie, it is. While director Sam Raimi keeps things flowing, assisted on the screenplay by his brother Ivan and Alvin Sargent, there's a little too much going on, and it's inevitable that one of the villains (there are three or four, depending on how you count) gets significantly short-changed. Still, the cast is excellent, the effects are fantastic, and the action is fast and furious. Even if Spider-Man 3 isn't the match of Spider-Man 2, it's a worthy addition to the megamillion-dollar franchise. --David Horiuchi

Not Much To Get Excited About It seems like Peter Parker has taken a step back in personality and maturity than he finally arrived at in Spidy 1. There's just so many screwball ideas in this Spidy that the movie would go between mega CGI action to a near stop with a couple sappy soap like back stories. I wount point out all the disappointments, but there is a couple worth mentioning.
The alter ego Peter Parker was several degrees below being the nerd he usuall plays. He was a down right creep show strutting and dancing down the street, but the real gem is when they had women look at him like he was a cool stud when doing that.....Ya right.
Another beef of mine is that if you're going to make a movie after a comic book, then at least keep the powers somewhat comparable. I haven't read a Spiderman for quite a while, but I don't remember him having a super strong body that can drop several stories and not be effected. Or take a sever beating by a super bad guy and not end up looking like road kill....He's Spiderman....Not Superman....
This is yet another Great Spidey Sequel I admit it, I'm a Baby Boomer, and have been a Spider-Man fan since he was first introduced in the 1960's.
I confess that, like so many others growing up, I put aside comics, reluctantly, in the 1980's. Ok, so I hung onto comics till I was in my 30's.
In the decades since, I've missed many Spider-Man stories, and many changes in Peter Parker and the Spider-Man.
I was familiar with Green Goblin & Sandman, but not with Eddie Brock. I read something about Venom, but don't remember much.
The recent Spider-Man movies have done a great job of portraying a very interesting super hero in the Marvel style.
Peter Parker has finally united with Mary Jane. But he still lives in the crappy little apartment with a door that only Peter can handle. Peter is still struggling to earn a living, and Eddie Brock is there to challenge his limited progress.
Then Spidey finds the black suit, and sees a more powerful, darker side of himself. The lives of Peter Parker and Spider-Man are threatened, as is Peter's relationship with Mary Jane.
The movie's portrayal of the new Peter Parker is rather silly in so many ways. The silliest part is Peter's song and dance routine. But then a little comedy is good for a super hero comic or movie.
The Venom story by itself was a challenge for a movie, but add the Sandman and the new Green Goblin... I was surprised that Spider-Man would survive.
But then there was a certain twist of fate, or surprise alliance, wasn't there?

LOVED Spiderman 3 OK... I just don't know what all the complaining is about. Spidey 3 was a phenomenal movie. The story continued from #2, the action scenes looked amazing and there were fanstastic acting performances from all the major players. It had heart and substance and a great moral. I can't wait to watch it again on Blu-Ray!
The trilogy ends on a high note. While part 3 isn't nearly as good as part 2. It's still strong enough to stand on it's own as a great movie. I loved the sandman and venom. Two awesome villains and the continued feud between Harry and Pete, the continued romance of Pete and Mary Jane. AWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! The whole thing gets wrapped up in a neat little package and it's a great finale to a superb trilogy. I'm sure they'll end up doing a part 4. I hope not, three was enough and without the original cast, I don't know if I'd even bother seeing it. Spidey 3 was a knockout. Highly recommended.
