Hot-tempered 15-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki, the hero of the popular fantasy-adventure Bleach (2004), has the unsettling ability to see spirits who are unable to rest in peace. His sixth sense leads him to Rukia, a Soul Reaper who destroys Hollows (soul-devouring monsters) and ensures the deceased find repose with the Soul Society. When she's injured in battle, Rukia transfers her sword and much of her power to Ichigo, whose spiritual energy makes him a formidable substitute Soul Reaper. But the orange-haired teenager isn't sure he wants the job: too many risks and moral dilemmas. Chad, a gentle, muscle-bound giant; ditsy Ohime, whose powers take the form of tiny protector-spirits; and Ishida, a descendant of a clan of Hollow-hunters who despise Soul Reapers, join Ichigo in his battles against the ghoulish creatures. A graver challenge arrives when a supernatural assassin takes Rukia back to the Soul Society, where she faces execution for sharing her powers with a mortal. Urahara ("Hat and Clogs Guy") tells Ichigo it may be possible to save Rukia, and puts him on a grueling training regimen. Ichigo learns to unleash his latent powers, while Chad and Ohime prepare to accompany him under the tutelage of Yoruichi, Urahara's talking cat. As the season ends, Urahara constructs an inter-dimensional portal that links Earth to the Soul Society for seven minutes: can the high school students save Rukia and return in time? Director Noriyuke Abe ably juggles dynamic swordfights, emotional scenes, and slapstick comedy. Ichigo may act like a jerk at times, but the filmmakers and voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch imbue the character with unusual depth. Ichigo can simultaneously express impatience at and compassion for a "Mod Soul," a disposable artificial entity created by the Soul Society. (Rated "Teen," suitable for ages 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery) --Charles Solomon

2 out of 5 starsJust average
This anime is just a bunch of conventions of the genre put together.
The hero who shows a "don't care attitude", but in reality want to protect everyone. He got this hidden power that makes him kinda of invincible, meaning that you will never fear for his life since you know he will always win, no matter how strong is the enemy.
Besides the pacing of the series is constantly interrupted but little side stories that adds nothing to the overall plot and are really boring.
The action so far have nothing special to it, since the animation is just average, and all the main caracter can do is swing his sword with no technic (which is understandable since he just got his powers, but still..).
But i have to admit that this anime have style. All the caracters have great designs, with a lot personality in it. Before looking out for Bleach I recomend you to see YU YU Hakusho, which have a similar concept but is infinitely superior.

5 out of 5 starsGreat Anime Of The Spirit World And A Whole Lot Of Action
I was finally able to get this set after waiting for awhile and am very pleased with this set. The storyline is pretty simple like most reviewers say with a dash of power plays and betrayal story lines in the series as well. I would say this is a newer version of Yu YU Hakusho with a mix of Samurai X but done exceptionally well. The English and Japanese voice actors are great and the animation is done very well the humor in the series is done very good too. I decided I wanted to get this one instead of the standard one being released in June because with this set you get both the English and Japanese audio with the standard version you just the English audio only I heard. The season set only goes up to episode 20 so sadly we're going to have to either wait for the season 2 box set or get the dvd's one by one as usual. Still for this exceptional series I feel would definitely be worth it so if you can't find this online check out your stores near you...

5 out of 5 starsawesome!!!
This show is absolutely freakin' awesome! this box-set contains the beginning of the story and that is probably the most important part...BUY IT! WATCH IT! LOVE IT! (I do!)

5 out of 5 starsI loved it!
I borrowed this from a friend and absolutely loved it. This show definitely keeps you on your toes. A lot happens in a short amount of time - there's a lot of action, new characters are constantly appearing, and it seems like you're always learning something new about the world of Bleach. It's beautiful.

One of my favorite features is that you can either watch it dubbed in English, or in it's original Japanese with English subtitles. I prefer watching it in Japanese, but the English dubs are very well-done. (Unfortunately, a lot of foreign movies we get are very poorly dubbed and end up sounding cheesy.)
I had never previously watched Bleach before I borrowed season 1 on dvd, and now I'm hooked - I can't wait to get my hands on season 2!

5 out of 5 starsMost excellent adventures ever!
I love this series. I wish the cartoon network would play it more often at a more reasonable hour! Also, wish Viz would start releasing more box sets so they can make money. Bleach has tons of fans, fans who want the series on dvd or even better on their tv screens! :D So I say we need to hound VIZ and get them to release Bleach more promptly and in more box sets. :D

Bleach is a tv series with a cast of fun, attitudal, kick butte teenagers that have a lot of fun fighting and saving each other from a terrible super natural enemy. This is, next to Naruto, the best anime I have ever watched or ever enjoyed.
