4 out of 5 starsExcellent for brand new anime fans craving action.
Alot of people love it and some hate it(as with all movies). But there is no denying Ninja Scroll is one of the most well known anime movies ever created. Along with Akira, Vampire Hunter D, and Fist of the Northstar. When people talk about the first anime that got them hooked. From my experiance, one of or all of these are always mentioned. Even though I don't like all of these and Ninja Scroll is not as special to me as it use to be. I still like it for the most part and it is still an excellent anime to wet your feet with the anime genre. Even those who hated Ninja Scroll were interested enough to continue further.

Ninja Scroll is the essence of anime in my opinion. Although the story and full background of these characters are choppy. They are still memorable and this anime is chock full of action. I'm talking some serious death here. Plus nudity and sex scenes. I was just watching this last night and I was even more impressed with the fluid animation. Simply because of the time it was created. There are titles that came out much later that doesn't compare with this.

I originally gave Ninja Scroll 3 stars before but it gets the extra one for it's major influence. Too many people are anime fans today because of this one movie. Ninja Scroll is something that should be seen by anyone interested in getting into anime. This DVD is not the original full screen version though. This is in wide screen format. I highly recommend this along with Fist of the North Star, Golgo 13, 8-Man, Vampire Hunter D, & Demon City Shinjuku. These are some of the earliest and darkest anime titles you can find.

I would recommend Akira but I know too many people who gave up on anime altogether and Akira was credited for that by all of them. So watch Akira at your own risk you may like it or may not. But don't give up on anime because of one title. There are some excellent titles out there.
